Olivier Aubin-Mercier Doesn’t Want to Rush His Career

August 21, 2015 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Olivier Aubin-Mercier spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Tony Sims at UFC Fight Night 74 and more. Check out the highlights:

On scaling up his opponents: “I really want to take it slowly. I have more experience in the UFC than I had outside the UFC. I don’t know if I would fight someone with 20 fights yet. Right now it’s just baby steps, baby steps, getting more experience and we’re going to see after Tony Sims.”

On time off between fights: “I like when there’s not a big break because of the money, but I like when there’s a big break because I can improve on things that I can’t do in training camp. I enjoy it more when there are six months in between each fight. Right now, I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future, but for sure at 28 years old I’m going to try to do a lot more fights than I have right now.”

On straying from his strategy: “I want to follow the game plan; I think my last three fights I didn’t follow the game plan. It worked out well for two times, but one time I got my ass kicked. Now I’m going to try to follow the game plan and what I’m doing. Just let the fighter in me fight.”

On Sims: “For sure I have a surprise for him. Now I have to bring something every time because, like for this fight, the main question was this: ‘Do you have something for your opponent?’ So I guess I have to do something.”
