Renan Barao Reportedly Returning to Bantamweight Division

April 30, 2017 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Renan Barao’s run at featherweight appears to be at an end. Combate reports that the former UFC bantamweight champion is headed back to that division for his next fight.

Barao moved to featherweight to fight at UFC Fight Night 89, losing a unanimous decision to Jeremy Stephens. He has since fought once more at that weight class, beating Phillipe Nover by decision at UFC Fight Night 95 in September.

The site notes that Barao is not currently committed to any fight but has been training at lighter weights lately, aiming for an easier cut than he had before moving to 145 when he had to be hospitalized on the day of the weigh-ins for his scuttled fight with T.J. Dillashaw at UFC 177.
