In an interview with MMA Junkie, UFC senior vice president and head of content and international Joe Carr said that he thinks mixed martial arts could be an Olympic sport by 2024 or 2028. He thinks that having over sixty MMA federations worldwide could convince SportAccord, the organization for the Olympics, as well as the International Olympic Committee.

He said: “The thing with the Olympics is, they’re trying to get younger. Think of the majority of those sports and who those appeal to. That’s why you see beach volleyball. Surfing is going to be in the next Olympics, and snowboarding – all these younger sports, because the fan base is dying out. What better new age sport than MMA?
