How Paul Heyman Tricked His Son Jacob Into Watching Him on TV

It wasn’t until his eighth birthday that Jacob Heyman saw what his father was like in the public eye. The father he knew as a regular dad, versus the outspoken advocate for “BRRRRRRRROCK Lesnar.” And Paul Heyman had to trick his son into watching him make a big retun on TV.

On The Heyman Hustle, Jacob recalled it. “It was my 8th birthday and Brock had returned earlier that year. And he had, uh, another person as his spokesperson. And my dad, my birthday is May 28th, and my dad told me that Brock was going to sing me ‘Happy Birthday’ on Monday Night Raw. So, I tune in, was not a wrestling fan at the time, and I tune on. Oh my god, Brock’s going to wish me happy birthday, and ladies and gentlemen, my dad walks through the curtain. That was the first time I saw him on TV outside as just being my dad.”

Lesnar did not, in fact, sing “Happy Birthday.” When Paul came home, Jacob had one question: “What was that? What were you just doing?” All in all, though, he considers it “not a bad birthday,” and now here he is, hosting the family wrestling podcast.
