Hello everyone and welcome to 411mania’s LIVE coverage of UFC on ESPN+ 10, I’m Robert Winfree and I’ll be your host for the evening relaying all of the action to you just as I see it. The UFC is making their first trip to Rochester tonight, and they’ve brought a decent if somewhat unspectacular card. The main event is pretty darn great as former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos will welcome Kevin Lee to the welterweight division. We lost the co-main event earlier this week when Neil Magny failed a drug test, he was to fight Vicente Luque who will now face Derrick Krantz in a lower position on the card. But good old Shoe Face, Antonio Carlos Junior, is back in action after a little over a year off against the rising Ian Heinisch. Nik Lentz and Charles Oliveira will fight for a third time because. . . reasons I guess. But as with all somewhat lackluster cards on paper they have the potential to be awesome in practice so let’s all hope for that.

UFC on ESPN+ 10 comes to the world from Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York, USA. On commentary we have Brendan Fitzgerald alongside Paul Felder, we’ll also have Trevor Wittman on occasion and Laura Sanko is handling reporting duties. As for the rules we’re under the new rules so you need both palms or fists flat on the mat to be considered downed (or a knee of course), extending fingers towards your opponent is a foul regardless of contact being made, and the language around scoring is clearer as well as encouraging more 10-8 scores. There will also be the use of instant replay for fight ending sequences if necessary, though once replay is used the fight cannot be restarted.

Julio Arce is coming off of his first loss in the UFC when he dropped a split decision to Sheymon Moraes, now he’s trying to get back on track and avoid his first UFC losing streak. Julian Erosa has gone 0-2 in his second UFC stint and he’s trying to avoid the dreaded 0-3 skid that will likely see him ousted from the promotion for a second time. The odds are with Arce at -800 against +550 for Erosa.

Featherweight Bout: Julio Arce (15-3, 145.6 lbs.) vs Julian Erosa (22-7, 146 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Erosa is six inches taller with a four and a half inch reach advantage. They touch gloves, Arce fighting southpaw. Erosa showing the hands but is just looking to get a reaction out of Arce. Arce is stalking forward, mostly looking to find a way to close distance. And the “woo’s” have started, so if you took the first fight for that prop bet go cash it. They get close and trade, Arce landed a pretty decent left hook before they separated. Both men are still struggling a bit with the range, Erosa lands a leg kick. Arce lands a jab, then they both land glancing lefts. They trade work to the body then clinch up, Erosa gets Arce on the fence. Erosa slips free. Stiff jab from Arce and Erosa lands an uppercut. One two from Arce land. Erosa lands a bit of a head kick and evades the counters. Arce lands a head kick of his own. Arce catches a kick and drops Erosa with a left, nearly jumps to the ground with him but Erosa elevates him and regains his feet as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Arce but could go either way

ROUND TWO: They touch gloves for the second round. Arce swinging early, he’s looking to force a fight this round. Hard right hook in close from Arce lands, Erosa doing some stance switching but he’s still upright. Arce lands a leg kick and punches in close, Erosa fires back though. Bit of a high kick from Arce lands. Arce lands a bit of a left. A few front kicks to the body from Arce. Erosa lands an inside leg kick. They clinch up, Arce gets Erosa on the fence then pulls free. Arce’s offense is finding the target much more often round, he’s letting Erosa come forward and avoiding the loopy hooks then countering. Erosa lands a right, and Arce lands to the body then head with counters. Arce lands a calf kick. Erosa tries a takedown, Arce defends and lands a couple of punches. More front kicks from Arce then a couple of lefts. Erosa hops for a knee, Arce clinches him then they break. Another clinch, and that’s where the round will end.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Arce, 20-18 Arce overall

ROUND THREE: They touch gloves for the last round. Both men land in close, we’re getting a bit of a brawl and they trade head kicks. Erosa is starting to get his jab going, Arce lands a straight left. Erosa lands a right hook, Arce lands a right of his own. There’s a lot of forward pressure from Erosa, he walks into a left to the body then a left hook to the head. They’re trading jabs, Arce lands a head kick after blocking one that just ENDS Erosa.

The Final Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Arce for his work this evening. Mic time for Arce, he says getting his first KO in the UFC feels unreal and thanks his coaches for all their work. He talks about being patient and finding the consistent opening on that side of the body. Asked who’s next he says he wants to move up and fight, anyone who’s free can call his name.

Here’s the finish. Being able to kick on the same side you just punched with is a great asset, Arce used that left to set up the high kick on the same side and Erosa never really saw the kick coming.

Zak Cummings won his last fight when he moved to middleweight for the first time in his UFC run, now he’s looking to build on that and start a legitimate run in the division. Trevin Giles is undefeated including two successful UFC bouts, he’s looking to remain perfect and take out a proven UFC veteran in Cummings. Giles hasn’t fought in just about two years so he’s hoping to end that layoff with a win. Despite that layoff Giles is the -180 favorite to a +150 payout for Cummings.

Middleweight Bout: Zak Cummings (22-6, 185.8 lbs.) vs Trevin Giles (11-0, 185 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: These two are the same height while Cummings has an inch of reach on Giles. They touch gloves, Cummings is fighting southpaw. Both men kind of pawing with the lead hand, Giles lands a front kick to the body. Cummings doing some stance switching now, looking for an angle. They trade inside leg kicks, Cummings grabs an arm and swings a punch that misses. Cummings falls a little short with a left. Giles is starting to get his jab working as they’re moving around the cage. Jab from Giles, Cummings lands a heavy body kick. Giles jumps to avoid a kick and barely avoids a punch. They trade in close, Cummings is bleeding just a little bit around his right eye. Cummings with another body kick. Giles takes a moment to “woo” with the crowd, and Cummings lands a leg kick. They clinch up, Giles lands a couple of knees. Cummings lands a knee, Giles puts Cummings on the fence and lands a few more knees as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Giles but a close one

ROUND TWO: That cut on Cummings is just above the right eye but under the eyebrow, not a good spot but it’s not a bad cut yet though it bears watching. They touch gloves for the second round. Giles lands a right. Another right from Giles, Cummings lands an inside leg kick. Cummings falls short with some punches. Bit of a right from Giles, Cummings fires back with a right hook of his own. Cummings barely avoids the brunt of a right hand and has to circle away for a moment. They trade power hand punches then Cummings lands an inside leg kick. They trade kicks again, this time Cummings took a groin shot so he’ll get up to five minutes to recover. Replay confirms the kick to the crotch, and Cummings walks it off rather quickly and we’re back to fighting. Giles apologizes and we’re back to action. Giles is getting his jab working now, Cummings lands a leg kick then a body kick but he’s bleeding from the bridge of the nose. Right from Giles lands and they clinch up in open space. They break without incident. Another clinch, Cummings with knees to the body this time as they hit the fence. Cummings tries for a trip, Giles stays upright as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Giles, 20-18 Giles overall but both have been close

ROUND THREE: Bit of a chopping left from Giles to get the round going. Cummings lands a leg kick, he’s trying to get Giles to the fence now. Bit of a left from Cummings after he took a few jabs. Giles lands a left hook. Cummings avoids an uppercut, then Giles lands a jab. Cummings lands an overhand left. Jumping body kick from Cummings and he tries a takedown, can’t get it but they’re clinched then Giles slips free and separates. Giles lands a right after slipping a kick. Both the cuts on Cummings are bleeding again, Giles lands a left hook. Cummings tries a couple of kicks but eats a counter combination. Giles is moving well and countering. Short right from Cummings lands then a leg kick. They trade power hand punches but it’s Giles that goes down, Cummings grabs a guillotine in transition and jumps guard with it. Cummings keeps cranking, Giles is trying to pass to the wrong side and winds up tapping out.

The Final Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Cummings for his work this evening. Mic time for Cummings, he puts over Giles as an opponent and saw the opening after rocking Giles. He talks us through the finish, jokes that you can’t train that it’s just something you have to have in you.

Cummings is able to duck his head, though he takes the punch Giles doesn’t get his head off the center line and the counter from Cummings drops him. On the mat it’s a pretty typical guillotine, Giles tries to defend by passing to the wrong side and likely tightens up the choke just a bit further and contributes to the finish.

Patrick Cummins has gone just 2-4 in his last six fights and is on his second two fight losing streak during that time. Cummins is trying to break that streak and avoid the dreaded three fight losing streak. Ed Herman is on a three fight losing streak, in fact he’s just 1-4 in his last five fights. Herman has been with the UFC for nearly thirteen years and if he wants to make any kind of move in the division he can’t afford a fourth consecutive loss here. Cummins is the -250 favorite against +200 for Herman.

Light Heavyweight Bout: Patrick Cummins (10-6, 205.2 lbs.) vs Ed Herman (23-14 1 NC, 206 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Cummins is half an inch taller while Herman has half an inch of reach advantage. They touch gloves to get things started. Both men circling a bit, and they trade jabs. More jabs, neither man has anything approaching defense just yet. Jabs from Cummins. Herman defends a knee tap attempt but eats a right hook while doing so. Another one two from Cummins, Herman lands a right. They clash on rights, Cummins is bleeding from the nose I think. Cummins lands a body kick and they trade punches after that. Leg kick from Cummins, then he gets a single leg but Herman kicks him upright and is back up before Cummins can get top position. Left hook from Cummins stuns Herman. They clinch up and Herman badly wobbles Cummins with a knee then pounds him out on the mat.

The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Herman for his work this evening. They would also like to address whoever caused the flat tires on their rental car and note that retaliation will be forthcoming. At least it ended in the first, Herman gets mic time. He says that he needs to get hit to wake up in a fight, and puts over Cummins for hitting him then thanks his family and coaches. He says he wants to be in the UFC video game, he’s been in the UFC for 13 years and hasn’t been in any of them, he just wants his son to be able to play him in the game. Talking through the finish he notes that his knees are becoming his best weapon and notes that when a good knee lands clean there’s not much you can do about it.

Nothing terribly special here, just a solidly executed knee from a quick Thai style clinch that hit the temple of Cummins and robbed him of his balance. Herman knows enough to follow up and that’s all she wrote.

Mike Trizano is undefeated with two wins in the UFC that includes winning the 27th season of TUF, now he’s looking to move beyond the TUF scene and prove himself against the UFC rank and file. Grant Dawson won his UFC debut earlier this year when he bested Julian Erosa, now he’s looking to extend an overall four fight winning streak. The odds lean towards Dawson at -160 while Trizano sits at +140.

Featherweight Bout: Michael Trizano (8-0, 145.6 lbs.) vs Grant Dawson (13-1, 145.8 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Trizano is an inch taller while Dawson has an inch of reach on him. They touch gloves then get to work. Trizano is firing jabs and one twos quickly looking to find the target. Dawson reaches for a double leg, they clinch up and Trizano puts Dawson on the fence. They jockey for position, Dawson has Trizano on the fence and is looking to get this to the mat. Trizano is doing a good job of avoiding outside trips or reaps then is able to spin free and separate. Both men working the jab now, Dawson lands a leg kick. Trizano lands a right then a left to the body. Bit of a head kick from Dawson then they’re back to jabbing at each other. More jabs, Dawson has some damage round his right eye but he get a takedown along the fence. Trizano is looking to wall walk, he’s upright but Dawson moves to the back standing. Dawson lands a knee as they get chest to chest. Trizano avoids a sweep attempt and is able to separate. Dawson with some leg kicks, Trizano lands a jab. Another stinging jab from Trizano as Dawson dives into the clinch and Trizano pushes him into the fence. There’s blood now from the right eye of Dawson. Knees from Dawson as he spins Trizano, he tries another trip and finally gets Trizano down, landing in side control. That’s where the round will end.

SCORECARD: 10-10 DRAW

ROUND TWO: That cut on Dawson is very close to the eyelid, that’s a bad spot. Both men showing jabs again, Trizano lands several. Those jabs from Trizano are money, and Dawson punches close and gets a clinch then a trip into full mount. Trizano gives up his back, Dawson is after the choke but Trizano is defending. Dawson is working to flatten Trizano out and lands a couple of lefts. Another choke attempt from Dawson, Trizano has to tap as Dawson gets a body triangle and keeps the pressure increasing.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Grant Dawson via Submission, rear naked choke, at 2:27 of Round 2

Dawson gets some mic time, he jokes that he went fifteen minutes in his last fight and hates that then puts over Trizano as a worthy opponent. Asked about what or who he’d like next he says he’d just like to fight in August and doesn’t really care who it is.

Danny Roberts has gone 3-2 in his last five fights but he’s coming off of a loss to Claudio Silva, now he’s trying to avoid his first ever losing streak. Michel Pereira is making his UFC debut on the back of a two fight winning streak, he’s looking to make an immediate impact by taking out a recognized prospect in Roberts. The odds are with Roberts at -250 against +200 for Pereira.

Welterweight Bout: Danny Roberts (16-4, 170.6 lbs.) vs Michel Pereira (22-9 2 NC, 170.6 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: These two are the same height while Roberts is an inch taller. They touch gloves, Pereira is switching stances while Roberts prefers southpaw. Pereira lands a right that staggers Roberts but he can’t follow up before Roberts gets his legs under him. Another straight right from Pereira, he’s timing those attacks to counter any motion from Roberts. Missed rolling thunder from Pereira. Front kick from Pereira hurts Roberts a bit to the body. Roberts seems a little bit befuddled by the oddness of Pereira, who lands a flying knee then a straight right to knock Roberts out cold.

The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Pereira for his work this evening. That’s a heck of a way to debut in the UFC. Pereira definitely gets an interview after that along with a translator, he thanks the UFC and the fans and promises more excitement in the future.

Roberts is paralyzed for much of this and has been rocked already, here Pereira waits until Roberts moves to close distance or jab and then throws a flying knee that wobbles Roberts then a picturesque straight right to the jaw puts him down and out.

Desmond Green has gone just 3-3 in the UFC but he’s coming off of his first finish in the promotion and is looking for his first UFC winning streak with a win here. Charles Jourdain brings a four fight winning streak into his UFC debut, he’s looking to extend that and take out a rising prospect like Green in emphatic fashion. Green is a massive -800 favorite to a whopping +550 payout for Jourdain.

Lightweight Bout: Desmond Green (22-8, 155.2 lbs.) vs Charles Jourdain (9-1, 153.6 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Green is an inch and a half taller and has four inches of reach on Jourdain. They touch gloves to get things going, both men fighting southpaw though Jourdain is showing stance switches. It’s pretty clear that Jourdain is more a featherweight as Green is visibly larger. Green blocks some kicks from Jourdain then lands a right hook. Body kick from Green. Green is moving and countering with his lead hand rather well so far. They tie up and trade knees then separate. Green works a couple of jabs then goes to the body when they tie up before Jourdain gets free. Jourdain lands a leg kick and this time avoids the counters. Green lands another knee in close. Bit of a left then a leg kick from Jourdain and Green responds with a one two. Another leg kick from Jourdain, he’s liking southpaw at the moment. Leg kick then a right from Jourdain. Green ducks under a couple of punches and gets a body lock takedown into the guard of Jourdain. Green is working to posture up and land punches. Jourdain is trying to get some control over the arms and set up a triangle attack but Green is posturing through and punching him. Body shots from Green, Jourdain is up but Green has his back standing. Jourdain is able to break the grip and separate. A few kicks go back and forth, Jourdain misses some punches as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Green

ROUND TWO: They touch gloves again. Jourdain is the one pressing forward, lands a leg kick but is off balanced by a left and has to back off. Green stumbles as their legs tie up and Jourdain tries for a standing guillotine as he gets up but Green gets free and they’re at distance again. Green lands a right hook. Right to the body from Green, Jourdain lands another leg kick. When Jourdain gets his striking going he’s got nice combinations but he’s a bit out gunned here. Jourdain blocks a flying knee and lands a leg kick. Green lands a leg kick. Another leg kick from Jourdain. Green lands a right to counter a jumping attack. Knee to the body from Green. Right hook from Jourdain but Green lands a couple of body shots to counter then a shot to the head. Straight left from Green, Jourdain lands to the body. Jourdain lands a leg kick. A couple of clubbing rights from Green are partially blocked. Jourdain is coming forward, lands a leg kick and avoids a sloppy double leg attempt. Another leg kick from Jourdain, he’s coming forward as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Jourdain, 19-19 overall

ROUND THREE: They touch gloves for the last round. Green checks a leg kick and lands a right. Jourdain lands a left, Green digs a couple of body shots. Jourdain lands a leg kick, Green with a bit of a left hand counter. More leg kicks from Jourdain, Green lands a one two. Jourdain is pressing the action and Green might be fading. Right to the body from Jourdain. Jourdain lands a left. Intercepting knee from Green lands to the body. Another right to the body from Green but Jourdain is still coming forward. Green lands a right hook. Another leg kick but Green lands a counter right. Green ducks under a hook and gets a double leg into the guard of Jourdain. Jourdain is trying to get up, he’s on his knees but Green is still on him and gets him down again into side control. Jourdain back up, Green has his back standing and takes him down again into the ride position. Again Jourdain is back up, this time he breaks the grip of Green and separates. Jourdain is coming forward, lands a bit of a right. Green spends the final seconds circling away as time runs down.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Jourdain but probably went to Green, 29-28 Jourdain overall

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Desmond Green via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27 x2)

Not sure I agree with 30-27 but I don’t really object to him winning given how close a the rounds were. Green is elated, he plays with the crowd, he’s from Rochester, and notes he might have injured his elbow on one of those last takedowns. He puts over Jourdain and thanks him for the fight, he says he’ll fight whoever gets him closer to the title.

That was our first decision of the evening.

Aspen Ladd is undefeated and the only real prospect at bantamweight now that Ketlen Vieira seems to have moved to contender status. Ladd won her UFC debut when she smashed Tonya Evinger in the first round, she’s looking to continue that momentum and start her own move towards the title picture. Sijara Eubanks has won her last two fights in the UFC but was plagued with weight cutting issues down at flyweight, now she’s moving back up to bantamweight and hoping to avenge an earlier loss to Ladd. The odds are with Ladd for this one at -330 against +260 for Eubanks.

Women’s Bantamweight Bout: #6 Aspen Ladd (7-0, 135.4 lbs.) vs #15 Sijara Eubanks (4-2, 134.8 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Ladd is two inches taller while Eubanks has an inch of reach. Ladd is also a full ten years younger. Both women showing the jab early, Ladd coming forward and lands a left hook. They trade inside leg kicks then Eubanks tries a double leg and elevates then slams Ladd. Full guard for Ladd, Eubanks passes towards half guard. Eubanks is riding well, moves to the ride position as Ladd gets to her knees. Ladd is back up, Eubanks is after a mat return but she can’t get it. Eubanks tries a single leg, Ladd grabs a standing guillotine and forces Eubanks down with it landing in side control. Ladd moves to the ride position, moves to the back with one hook in as Eubanks is looking to spin into her guard. Ladd back to the ride position, some nice scrambles, and Ladd lands rights as Eubanks is back on her feet. Mat return from Ladd into the ride again, she’s moving towards the back again. Eubanks is back up but still clinched. Knees to the thigh from Ladd then she misses an elbow. They break and then trade punches. We get some pocket brawling and Eubanks drops Ladd just as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Eubanks

ROUND TWO: Both women looking to strike again, Ladd is coming forward. Jabs from both women, Eubanks lands a right to the body. Ladd digs to the body and clinches up, Eubanks gets her on the cage. Ladd pummels to a 50-50 position and moves Eubanks to the fence. They’re jockeying for position and trading knees then Ladd gets a body lock takedown into side control. Ladd is thinking about knee on belly, instead lands a few knees to the body then moves to mount. Ladd gets the back in transition with both hooks in and is after the choke but Eubanks is defending. One of Ladd’s hooks came out, she gets it back but loses the choke because of it. A few lefts land for Ladd, she’s trying to open up the choke. Ladd gets under the chin but Eubanks is fighting the hands and forces a move to half guard. Ladd is still on top landing short elbows. Eubanks is trying to get control over the posture of Ladd, who lands a few more short elbows. Ladd tees off, Eubanks kicks her off but Ladd kicks her legs as shes on her back then goes back into the guard with punches as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Ladd, I wouldn’t object to a 10-8, 19-19 overall

ROUNd THREE: Both women jabbing again, Ladd is coming forward constantly with pressure. Left hooks go back and forth, Eubanks is trying to keep this at boxing range while Ladd is coming forward. Ladd lands a right. Eubanks is landing while backing up, they trade body work and Ladd gets a clinch in space. They trade knees, Eubanks lands an elbow. Ladd with a couple of elbows on the break. Both women miss hooks, Eubanks lands a couple of straight punches and Ladd counters. Ladd is doggedly pushing forward. Stiff jab from Ladd then a left hook. Ladd lands a right that stuns Eubanks for a second but Eubanks fires back. Ladd lands an elbow then a left hook. Ladd goes southpaw and lands a body kick. Eubanks is visibly slowing. Eubanks lands a left hook, Ladd fires back, we’re getting some pocket brawling at this point. Ladd tries a double leg, gets to the fence and settles into the clinch. Knees from Ladd. Both women with knees now, Ladd lands an elbow and we get a full blown Road House final few seconds as time runs down.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Ladd, 29-28 Ladd overall

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Aspen Ladd via unanimous decision (30-26, 29-27, 29-28)

No issues with a 10-8 second, I probably was wrong not to give Ladd one frankly. Mic time for Ladd and she puts over Eubanks and notes she works hard to excel in all the aspects of MMA. Asked what she wants next she has no call out right now but wants to see how things play out over the rest of the night.

That’s it for the prelims, on to the main card which is still on ESPN+.

Davi Ramos is on a three fight winning streak and has finished all of those fights, he’s looking to extend that streak and start a move up the crowded ranks at lightweight. Austin Hubbard brings a three fight winning streak into his UFC debut, he’s looking to halt the momentum of Ramos and announce himself to the UFC audience. Ramos is a hefty -500 favorite against a +375 comeback on Hubbard.

Lightweight Bout: Davi Ramos (9-2, 156 lbs.) vs Austin Hubbard (10-2, 155.4 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Hubbard is four inches taller but has just one inch of reach advantage. They touch gloves to get things going. Hubbard is showing a lot of looks, Ramos seems unphased. Ramos is coming forward looking to close distance, he lands a right to counter a jab. They trade front kicks to the groin, we’ve got time for that. Both men get a warning and we’re back to fighting. Leg kick from Ramos. One two from Ramos lands, Hubbard is bleeding a bit from the nose I think. Hubbard lands a front kick to the body. Ramos jabs the body then lands a bit of a right. Hubbard blocks a high kick and they trade rights but Hubbard continues with a combination. Ramos lands another leg kick. Hubbard misses a couple of punches and lands an inside leg kick. Ramos lands a counter right after a front kick. Another combination from Ramos, he’s got a feel for his counters now and is finding them consistently. Ramos gets poked in the eye so the action halts. The doctor is in to check on Ramos’ eye, he’s good to continue and we’re back to fighting. Ramos lands a left hook in close but Hubbard just eats it. Another left hook from Ramos lands. Double leg from Ramos is partially successful but he winds up on the back standing, drags Hubbard back to the amt and is after the choke. Punches from Ramos but Hubbard will break his grip and survive the round.

ROUND TWO: Ramos is coming forward again, Hubbard jacks his own foot a bit on a front kick but gets his feet back under him. Leg kick from Ramos then a left hook in close. Hubbard lands a leg kick. Ramos lands a right then Hubbard checks a leg kick and Ramos stumbles. Hubbard lands a knee in close, Ramos fires back with a right and they both back off for a second. Ramos is coming forward still, gets a high crotch lift and moves to the back standing with one hook in. Ramos drags Hubbard down, it’s more of a modified crab ride than a full back take and Hubbard is able to scramble free and separate. Hubbard lands a left to the body then a leg kick, Ramos responds with a body shot of his own. Ramos lands a leg kick. Right then a left from Ramos in close, Hubbard lands a bit of a right. Ramos punches into a clinch and is after a double leg along the fence. Ramos switches to a single leg, Hubbard is still defending. Hubbard can’t stay upright forever though and he’s down on his seat against the fence and Ramos pulls him away from it and moves to half guard. Ramos sneaks in a few rights to the body and head. Elbows from Ramos bring the round to a close.

ROUND THREE: They touch gloves for the final round. Hubbard coming forward, lands a leg kick. More forward pressure from Hubbard, Ramos lands a leg kick. Ramos avoids a few kicks then lands a leg kick. Hubbard still coming forward, has a few kicks blocked. Bit of a left hook from Ramos has Hubbard backing up. Another clubbing left hook from Ramos wobbles Hubbard, he swarms him along the fence then moves to the back standing and rides Hubbard down to the mat. Lefts from Ramos who’s on the hip of Hubbard and Hubbard is able to turn in and get half guard. Ramos is looking for a pass, he lands a knee to the body. The ref stands them up, I don’t agree with that at all but the ref also warns Ramos about fingers in the eyes that I might have just missed. Hubbard is coming forward, they trade leg kicks. Hubbard lands a right in close. Ramos misses a spinning back kick and gets off balanced by Hubbard, Ramos is on his back while Hubbard stands over him. Leg kicks from Hubbard then he goes into the guard of Ramos as the clock runs down.

Not a bad fight, Hubbard has a heck of a chin. Mic time for Ramos, he says he’s not feeling great due to the lack of a finish and says he didn’t fight all that good, and says he’s got much more than this. Ramos is speaking English, credit to him, and he promises to come for the finish next time. Asked who’s next he says he’ll fight anyone and says the only fight he really wants is Khabib Nurmagomedov and he knows he’s got a ways to go before that but that’s where his sights are.

Charles Oliveira is on a four fight winning streak with all of those being submission wins, he’s trying to climb further up the lightweight ranks with another win here. Nik Lentz is on a two fight winning streak and is trying to avenge a 2015 loss to Oliveira and possibly claim his spot in the top fifteen rankings. This is the third fight between these two men and Oliveira has largely dominated the proceedings, leading to his -350 favored status against a +275 payout on Lentz.

Lightweight Bout: #15 Charles Oliveira (26-8 1 NC, 154.2 lbs.) vs Nik Lentz (30-9-2 1 NC, 155.6 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Oliveira is two inches taller and has a whopping six inches of reach on Lentz. They touch gloves, Lentz starts out southpaw but will do a lot of stance switching. Lentz is circling, lands a leg kick then they clinch up. They break without incident and Lentz is back to moving. Bit of a high kick from Lentz then a right hook that landed. Uppercut in close from Lentz then they break from a clinch. Leg kick from Oliveira then he catches a kick and lands a straight right. Oliveira lands an elbow in a brief clinch. They clinch and break again, there’s going to be a lot of that. Lentz lands a leg kick, straight right from Oliveira lands. Jumping elbow from Oliveira lands and they clinch, Lentz gets a quick takedown but Oliveira is back up and Lentz is bleeding from that elbow. Oliveira pulls free and we’re at distance again. Oliveira is firing his straight right nicely, and lands a left hook as Lentz was moving. Lentz lands a straight left, Oliveira lands a right then a jumping front kick to the face but Lentz gets him down then Oliveira sweeps him to get on top. Half guard for Oliveira, he’s looking to wrap the neck of Lentz and he spins around and lands elbows. Lentz is trying to get half guard but he’s got no posture control and Oliveira lands another right. There’s an arm triangle attack from Oliveira if he wants it, he bails on that to land another elbow. Lentz fights back up and lands a bit of a left. Lentz blocks a tornado kick and Oliveira lands a punch as the round ends.

ROUND TWO: The doctor is in to check the cut over the left eyebrow, the doctor has no issues with the fight continuing. They touch gloves again. Lentz lands a body kick but Oliveira catches it and lands a couple of rights. Lentz is after a takedown, he gets it but Oliveira is wrapping the neck and sits for a guillotine with full guard. Oliveira is adjusting a bit looking to finish things but Lentz gets his head free and lands a left. Elbows from Lentz then Oliveira lands an illegal up kick. Lentz will have time to recover, he says he’s fine. The ref gives Oliveira a hard warning for that one and restarts them back in the guard position. Lentz is working to pass, Oliveira kicks him off and is back up then lands a knee from the clinch. They trade in close then break. Oliveira lands a right to the body. Lentz with a left hook then a body kick that Oliveira catches, Oliveira lands a straight right that drops Lentz badly and he pounds him out on the mat.

Oliveira gets interviewed, he says that since his last loss to the man interviewing him, Paul Felder, he’s been working very hard on his skill set. He says he’s Chute Boxe, if you hit them they keep coming forward. Asked who he’d like next he tells the matchmakers to stop playing around and give him a top five opponent. To close he expresses love to his daughter and pride in Brazil.

This is why you want some snap on your kicks, if they’re kind of hanging out after they land they’re easy to catch and counter like this.

The UFC announces former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans for this upcoming Hall of Fame class in the modern wing. Evans is in attendance and is moved to tears by the video package and the moment.

Derrick Krantz brings a four fight winning streak into his UFC debut, he’s drawn a tough fight but if he wins he’ll have announced himself in a big way. It’s worth noting Krantz took this fight on about a weeks notice after Neil Magny got pulled from this fight. Vicente Luque is 8-1 in his last nine fights in the UFC and is on his second four fight winning streak during that time, he’s looking to extend that to five and earn a step up in competition going forward. Luque is the biggest favorite on this card, specifically -1200 while the +750 payout for Krantz likely tempts a few degenerate gamblers.

Welterweight Bout: #15 Vicente Luque (15-6-1, 170 lbs.) vs Derrick Krantz (24-10, 170.2 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Luque is an inch taller but has three and a half inches of reach advantage. They touch gloves to get things going. Krantz comes forward quickly and starts swinging then tries a high crotch lift but Luque is after a guillotine from standing guard. The arm is in, Krantz is able to shake him down and break the grip. Luque to his knees but Krantz is in the ride position. Krantz gets the back with both hooks in, he’s after the choke but Luque is defending. Krantz moves to the mount, he’s after the seated arm triangle now but Luque is relaxed and doesn’t seem to be in too much danger yet. Luque breaks the grip and is up then free. Luque lands a left hook. Leg kick from Luque then a jab. Right from Luque then a leg kick, Krantz might have shot his wad a bit in that flurry because he looks very flat right now. Another leg kick from Luque. Krantz lands a right. Jabs then a right from Luque stagger Krantz for a second. Knee from Luque then punches to drop him, and punches from the sprawl position force the stoppage.

The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Luque for his work this evening. Mic time for Luque, he notes the chaos around the fight then gives glory to God and wishes his wife happy birthday. He’s happy to have gotten to fight on this card and thanks Krantz for taking it. Asked about the start he says he knew Krantz would start strong but even then he went really hard and he wanted to make Krantz work hard and tire him out even from bad positions. He talks us through the finish and notes that this is what he does. He petitions for the main event of the upcoming Uruguay card but offers no opponent just yet.

Here’s the finish. Luque times a nice left knee to the body then as Krantz tries to recover with his arms lower and Luque cracks him with a couple of punches that drop him and then Luque’s finishing instinct took over.

Megan Anderson has gone 1-1 in the UFC but she’s coming off of a win and is hoping to build on that momentum and get her first UFC winning streak up and running. Felicia Spencer is undefeated coming into her UFC debut, she’s trying to score a big win and help further the case that featherweight could be a legitimate division going forward. The odds are with Anderson at -190 against +160 for Spencer.

Women’s Featherweight Bout: Megan Anderson (9-3, 145.8 lbs.) vs Felicia Spencer (6-0, 145.6 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Anderson is six inches taller and has four inches of reach on Spencer. Spencer is circling early, Anderson catches a kick and lands a straight right. Another right to counter a kick from Anderson and Spencer has had enough of that so she forces a clinch. Spencer has Anderson on the fence and is working knees to the thigh. Spencer tries a lateral drop, then initiates a scramble and gets the back but is way too high. Anderson tries to shake her off but loses her footing and Spencer winds up holding the back with both hooks in. Spencer lands some punches as Anderson gets to her knees. Anderson is looking to wall walk, she gets one of the hooks free then shakes Spencer but can’t get her over the head. Spencer is after the choke, she flattens out Anderson then forces Anderson to tap.

She puts over Anderson and says the featherweight division is building and puts Anderson over again but says that she’s just a bad style match up for her. She talks us through the finish, then says there’s nothing else besides the title ahead of her in the UFC right now.

Antonio Carlos Junior is on a five fight winning streak but has been out of action for a little over a year, now he’s trying to extend that streak and remind the fan base that he’s a rising contender. Ian Heinisch is on a four fight winning streak that includes a successful UFC debut, now he’s looking to take out a ranked opponent and make his own case for contender status. Junior is the -165 favorite to +140 for Heinisch.

Middleweight Bout: #12 Antonio Carlos Junior (10-2 1 NC, 185.6 lbs.) vs Ian Heinisch (12-1, 185.6 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Junior is three inches taller and has seven inches of reach on Heinisch. They touch gloves to get us going. Heinisch opens up kicking, trying to maintain some distance right now. Junior lands a leg kick and they clinch up. Junior gets Heinisch on the fence and hits a modified lateral drop and lands on top in half guard. Heinisch is throwing punches from his back, Junior is looking to pass. Punches from Junior and he’s looking for a pass, tries for a leg lock roll but thinks better of it and is back on top landing a few elbows. Heinisch has full guard and wall walks but Junior is still on his back standing. Heinisch tries a granby roll, Junior rolls with him and keeps the rear waist lock. Another granby attempt from Heinisch but he can’t get free of the grip of Junior. Junior gets a quick trip but Heinisch is back up before the position develops. Double leg now from Junior and he’s got Heinisch down but Heinisch is up on a single leg trying to avoid spending too much time on his back. They’re back up though still clinched, Junior gets the back and nearly gets a guillotine in transition but wont finish before the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-8 Junior as I don’t think Heinisch had any meaningful offense

ROUND TWO: Calf kick from Heinisch starts the second round. Glancing right from Heinisch then another calf kick. Junior lands a leg kick of his own. Heinisch punches in close but can’t get any real offense going. Junior takes a calf kick and complains of an eye poke but the ref didn’t see it and so he shoots a double leg and gets the clinch. Heinisch tries another granby roll but this time Junior stifles part of it and gets the back with one hook in. Junior moves to the ride position and Heinisch is back up though Junior still has his back in the clinch. Heinisch lands a few elbows and Junior tries to drag him down but winds up on bottom. A few lefts from Heinisch as he’s in half guard. Junior is looking for a sweep but Heinisch is landing short lefts and stopping that motion. Heinisch is looking to swarm a bit while Junior holds a single leg from his knees. Junior rolls to his back, and Heinisch lands a few leg kicks then returns to the guard as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Heinisch but my feed stuttered a few times so can’t fully vouch for that, 19-18 Junior overall

ROUND THREE: Heinisch got a warning for fence grabbing between rounds, the next time he’ll lose a point. They touch gloves for the last round. Heinisch swings a right that’s mostly glancing. One two from Junior. Junior off balances Heinisch with a jab then lands a kick. Heinisch is still coming forward swinging, he lands a left then a calf kick. They clinch and Junior lands a knee to the groin of Heinisch so we’ve got a time out. Replay confirms the nut shot, Junior gets a warning for that and we’re back to fighting. Heinisch lands a right that drops Junior and Heinisch grabs a front headlock to avoid a takedown. Junior is up and Heinisch lands a knee but Junior gets a single leg and drives him into the fence. Heinisch sprawls away from that but Junior slips to the back standing then slips off trying for a trip and Heinisch is on top. Half guard for Heinisch and he’s working some punches to the head. Junior looks pretty gassed at this point, but he hits a half guard sweep and is on top looking for an arm triangle. Heinisch gets his arm free and is looking to escape. They scramble up, Heinisch hits a single leg but then Junior spins around towards his back but slips again and has to go inverted briefly to regain gull guard. Heinisch passes to half guard and lands a few elbows. Heinisch moves to nearly full mount, he pounds on Junior for the final seconds.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Heinisch but I wouldn’t object too much to a 10-8, 28-28 DRAW overall

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Ian Heinisch via unanimous decision (29-28 x3)

I have no issues with that decision, Heinisch is a blood and guts fighter. Mic time for Heinisch, he says he had to be technical against Junior and is grateful to have won. He says he could have done better and puts over Junior, then expresses love to his family and the UFC. Asked who he’d like next, Jack Hermansson or Derek Brunson come to mind for him.

Rafael dos Anjos is a former lightweight champion but is on a bit of a rough streak, after winning three in a row after moving up to welterweight he’s dropped his last two fights against Colby Covington and current champion Kamaru Usman. Dos Anjos is trying to avoid his first three fight losing streak and get his career back on track. Kevin Lee is making his welterweight debut after going 1-2 in his last three fights, he’s taking on another former lightweight here and hoping to find new life with a much less strenuous weight cut. The odds have this one close but favor Lee at -125 to +105 for dos Anjos.

Welterweight Bout: #3 Rafael Dos Anjos (28-11, 170.4 lbs.) vs Kevin Lee (17-4, 170.2 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Lee is an inch taller but has seven inches of reach on dos Anjos. Southpaw for dos Anjos, Lee opens with a body kick and dos Anjos returns it. Both men land lead hand punches. Body kick from dos Anjos but he’s off balanced by Lee and Lee gets a takedown into single leg. Dos Anjos back up, Lee moves to the back standing and has one hook in. Now dos Anjos separates and they trade punches. Lee lands a right and a body kick. They trade power hand punches then dos Anjos lands an uppercut. Body kick from Lee, then he tries a takedown that hits the fence. Dos Anjos defends and forces a clinch, Lee is really committed to the takedown but can’t finish it. A few elbows sneak in for dos Anjos, he’s using a kimura trap to break the grip and forces Lee to switch to a high crotch. Short knees and elbows for dos Anjos, Lee is trying to pressure through them. Knees from dos Anjos as they jockey for position. Dos Anjos is really good about sneaking in offense at every opportunity while Lee is just kind of holding on. More knees from dos Anjos then Lee separates. Lee lands a body kick then a high knee. Dos Anjos misses a high kick then lands a left. Lee lands a knee to the body. Jumping knee from dos Anjos misses but he’s the one coming forward now and gets a double leg into half guard. Lee tries to get motion going, dos Anjos holds a front headlock and they’re up, Lee is after a takedown but can’t finish it before the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 dos Anjos

ROUND TWO: Lee back to reaching with the lead hand, he might be slowing already. Body kick from dos Anjos lands. Dos Anjos forces a clinch, Lee drives things into the fence and is looking for a takedown. Dos Anjos defends, grabs a guillotine as he’s taken down and uses it to sweep and regain his feet though still clinched. Lee is after a single leg, dos Anjos lands a few body shots and avoids being taken down. That kimura trap from dos Anjos breaks the grip and forces a separation. Jabs from dos Anjos then a high kick that wobbles Lee a little bit. Double leg from dos Anjos and he drives Lee to his knees but they’re against the fence. Lee is back to his feet, dos Anjos breaks without incident. Lee has a high kick blocked, dos Anjos lands a body kick. Lee lands a couple of punches and clinches but again dos Anjos is defending well. Dos Anjos has that kimura grip again, he’s constantly grip fighting with it to wear out the arms of Lee. Dos Anjos slips off of the fence but Lee is able to get him back there. They trade knees to the body, then Lee drops his level but again can’t finish the takedown. Lee just can’t complete a takedown and dos Anjos is making him work. They trade in close then break and Lee has a high kick blocked. Body kick from dos Anjos then a left and Lee dives for a single leg but dos Anjos sprawls until they hit the fence. Dos Anjos lands some lefts and elbows, Lee misses a right as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 dos Anjos, 20-18 dos Anjos overall

ROUND THREE: Jumping knee from dos Anjos is partially successful and he’s looking to push the pace. Bit of a left from dos Anjos. Body kick from dos Anjos, Lee returns it. Another left from dos Anjos, Lee’s head movement is nearly gone. Double leg from dos Anjos into half guard, nearly side control and he moves to that position. Dos Anjos is nearly in a mounted crucifix, Lee moves to a hip trying to get a sweep going and he gets to his knees and then up in the clinch but dos Anjos knees him in the body as they do. They hit the fence again, dos Anjos tries a single leg but Lee spins with him and moves to the back but can’t really get both hooks in and dos Anjos spins into him to be on top. Lee is trying to wall walk, dos Anjos moves to the back without hooks and lands punches. Lee to a knee, dos Anjos knees him in the thigh as they return upright and dos Anjos gets him down again. Another wall walk from Lee but dos Anjos is keeping him down on his seat. They’re up again, Lee turns dos Anjos into the fence but he’s unable to get a takedown of his own. Knees from dos Anjos then an elbow. Lee is after another takedown, dos Anjos gets takendown to his hips but he wall walks almost immediately to his knees. Lee moves to the back in the clinch but dos Anjos gets him to slip off and gets him down on his seat. Dos Anjos lands lefts to the head as Lee stands and they still clinch. More body work from dos Anjos as the round ends.

ROUND FOUR: Dos Anjos is looking to jab, lands a left and takes a body kick. Lee lands a right. Front kick to the body from Lee lands. Dos Anjos with more jabs. Bit of a left from dos Anjos then they clash on kicks but Lee’s lands to the crotch of dos Anjos. Dos Anjos walks it off immediately and wants to continue fighting. One two from dos Anjos then more jabs. Hard inside leg kick from dos Anjos buckles the lead leg for a second. Lee lands an inside leg kick of his own. Double leg from Lee, he moves to the back in the clinch as they hit the fence. Dos Anjos is hand fighting as Lee gets one hook in and then forces a break. Lee lands a body kick. Another inside leg kick from dos Anjos then some jabs. Lee lands another body kick. Dos Anjos defends a takedown and they hit the fence again. Elbows from dos Anjos as he’s defending. Knee from dos Anjos, and another one as they break. Lee lands another body kick then they trade rights. They clash hard on a level change and hit the fence then break without incident. Dos Anjos lands a body kick and defends a single leg attempt then moves to the back of Lee and lands punches then moves to full mount. Dos Anjos is after an arm triangle, moves to side control with it and forces Lee to tap.

Dos Anjos is a largely underappreciated fighter, that was a smart veteran performance from him to get back on the winning side of things. Mic time for dos Anjos, he gives glory to Christ and notes he’s 34 years old with 40 fights and 27 of them in the UFC then puts over Lee as an up and comer then thanks his coaches for all of their work. He talks about the early push of Lee but he knew he could get him the later things went and he listened to his coaches coming into the fourth and feels that adjustment set up the win. He wishes love to his wife and children. When talking us through the finish he mentions feeling Lee get more tired and finding the right moment to capitalize on, then talks about having fought the best in his last two fights. Asked who he’d like next he says anybody as he knows he can be a world champion and just wants to be ready to take any opportunity that comes his way.

On that note UFC on ESPN+ 10 comes to a close. We got nine finishes, the most for any UFC card this year. Not a great night of fights but I’m not complaining about too much.
