Yoel Romero Wins $27 Million in Lawsuit Against Company Over Tainted Supplement

Yoel Romero has been awarded $27 million in damages in a lawsuit filed against a supplement company over a failed drug test from 2015. The UFC middleweight’s manager, Abe Kawa, posted to Instagram and revealed that Romero was awarded $27.45 million in the suit against Gold Star Performance.

Romero sued Gold Star in January of 2018 over the failed test, which came as a result of a supplement which contained Ibutamoren, a banned substance. He received a reduced sentence from USADA due to the situation. MMA Weekly reports that Gold Star did not answer the lawsuit or appear in order to defend themselves.

According to Kawa, the damages were $3 million in lost wages, $3 million in reputable harm and $3 million for emotional damage. Those penalties were then tripled due to the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act. “We feel justified,” Kawa said. “Yoel, even if no money is made, would’ve been happy with a ruling that exonerates him. The award was icing no the cake.”
