It was a great second weekend for The Batman, as the DC blockbuster had a fantastic hold to win the weekend again. The Robert Pattinson-led superhero film scored a $66 million second weekend, down 51% from last weekend’s start, for an easy win against a lack of competition. That drop is the best hold for a live-action Batman film since 2005’s Batman Begins, topping the holds of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (69%), The Dark Knight Rises (61%) and The Dark Knight (53%).

This is fantastic news for a film that was already off to a great start; the second weekend hold was going to be crucial in determining how strong the legs were on this three-hour film. Clearly the positive critical buzz and word of mouth is paying off for the film, which soared to $238.5 million domestically and $463.2 million worldwide. The film is a massive hit in the making for Warner Bros. in its return to theatrical exclusivity and is looking on a likely course to top $350 million. If it does, it will be the first DC film since 2017’s Wonder Woman to do so. With little competition until Morbius in three weeks, it could reach even higher. Even with a $200 million budget, this film is a huge success for the studio.

Speaking of huge successes, Uncharted continued its strong run as it was down just 17% in its fourth weekend to $9.3 million. The Sony/Naughty Dog collaboration is now up to $113.4 million domestically and $301.3 million worldwide, both great numbers against its $120 million budget. The Tom Holland-led video game adaptation is looking ever stronger and should be able to top $135 million in the US once it’s done, exceeding expectations.

Coming in at #3 was BTS Permission to Dance on Stage Seoul, which had a massive launch in just a single night. The concert film for the K-pop band nailed down $6.8 million for its special live simulcast, breaking the record for such an event. The gross speaks to the band’s huge popularity both in the US and abroad, where it added $25.8 million internationally for a $32.6 million worldwide take.

Channing Tatum’s animal road-trip drama Dog eased a mere 13% in its fourth weekend to $5.3 million. The little film has now grossed $47.8 million domestically and $54.2 million worldwide, making it a success considering the budget of just $15 million budget. Dog is now targeting a $60 million domestic total by the time it closes out.

Spider-Man: No Way Home continued to rock, as it brought in $4.1 million in its 13th weekend, a drop of just 10%. The Sony/MCU film has now grossed $792.3 million domestically and $1.876 billion worldwide and is on course to cross $800 million domestic before it exits theaters. The budget was $200 million.

Death On the Nile is a film that has desperately welcomed its legs, and it was off only 9% in its fifth weekend. The mystery film tallied $2.5 million, bringing its totals to $40.8 million domestically and $119.1 million worldwide. The film will not be a profit for the studio due to its $90 million budget and should end its run stateside at around $48 million, though 20th Century Studios has revealed plans for a third film in the franchise. The movie hits Hulu and HBO Max on March 29th.

Launching in the #7 spot was the Indian romantic drama Radhe Shyam. The latest Bollywood film to hit the states had a pretty solid $1.86 million start. Like most such films, it is likely to drop off the charts fairly soon despite the lack of competition, as Indian films tend to be quite front-loaded due to their very targeted audiences.

Sing 2 had the lowest drop in the top 10, down a mere 3% in its 12th weekend to $1.6 million. The animated sequel stands at $155.8 million domestically and $366.9 million worldwide and should be able to end its run at around $160 million in the US. The budget was $85 million.

Jackass Forever brought in $1.1 million, down 23% from the previous weekend. The comedy is now at $56.3 million domestically and $75.5 million worldwide, making it a big hit against a budget of $10 million. The film should close out with about $60 million by the end of its domestic box office run.

Scream held on tightly to the #10 spot for one more week, down 22% to $445,000 in its ninth frame. The slasher sequel has grossed $80.9 million domestically and $139.3 million globally against a budget of just $24 million. The movie should close at around $82 million domestically.

It will be another win The Batman next weekend, as it will face off with a couple horror entries in A24’s X and Sony’s Umma, neither of which will challenge the Dark Knight’s crown. Focus Features’ The Outfit should be around $1 million in its light start.
