Bryan Fuller Steps Down As Amazing Stories Showrunner
Deadline reports that Bryan Fuller has left the reboot of Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories due to creative differences. He will no longer be the showrunner and it’s unknown if he’ll take on a new role. He hadn’t given a script to Apple before his exit, which was said to be amicable. Executive producer Hart Hanson has also left.
Fuller has been attached to the reboot since it was originally set up at NBC. Apple made a straight-to-series deal for ten episodes. Fuller devoted his attention to Amazing Stories after departing American Gods as the co-showrunner. He also previously left Star Trek: Discovery during pre-production, a total of three shows in all.
The original series ran from 1985 to 1987. It was cancelled after a two-season order due to low ratings. It won five Emmys, including an acting award for guest John Lithgow and a directing award for Spielberg due to the episode “The Mission.”
The new series “will transport the audience to worlds of wonder through the lens of today’s most imaginative filmmakers, directors and writers.” The other executive producers include Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, with Universal Television and Amblin Television producing.
