Chris Evans Says Playing Johnny Storm Again Is An Easier Sell To Him Than Captain America
Chris Evans would love the chance to revisit his role as Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four, confessing that’s an easier sell than reprising Captain America. Evans played the Human Torch in the 2005 and 2007 Fantastic Four movies, and while speaking with MTV News during promotion for Lightyear was asked about the idea of playing Johnny once more.
“God, wouldn’t that be great?,” he said (per Syfy Wire). “No one’s ever come to me about that. I mean, I don’t exactly look the same anymore. That was 15, almost 20 years ago. But I really love that character. But I think… aren’t they doing something now with Fantastic Four?”
When it was brought up that the arrival of the multiverse could potentially see him take on the role again, Evans said, “I mean, I guess all bets are off. Look, I would love it. I would love it. That would actually be an easier sell to me than coming back as Cap. Cap is so precious to me. [I] almost don’t wanna disrupt what a beautiful experience that was. But Johnny Storm, I feel like he didn’t really get his day. That was before Marvel really found its footing. So, I loved that role and who knows.”
Evans of course played the role of Captain America in the MCU to a bit more fame than he did Johnny Storm. He has spoken recently about how playing Cap again would be a “tall order,” noting, “It was such a good run and I’m so happy with it. It’s so precious to me. It would have to be perfect. It just would be scary to rattle something that is, again, so, so dear to me.”
Marvel is working on a Fantastic Four movie, though they are searching for a new director as planned helmer Jon Watts decided he needed a break from superhero films after the Spider-Man trilogy.
