Scream 7 is moving forward, with Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon at the helm. THR reports that Landon, who directed the two Happy Death Day films as well as the body-hopping slasher Freaky, is taking over directing duties on the seventh film in the franchise.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who directed the previous two entries in the popular slasher series, are stepping back in order to focus on their Universal monster movie that is currently halted due to the strike. The two will executive produce the new Scream along with their Radio Silence partner Chad Villella.
The Scream franchise returned from the dead with 2022’s Scream, which grossed $137.7 million worldwide. It was followed by January’s Scream VI which went higher at $168.9 million worldwide. The cast for the previous two films reportedly do not have deals yet to return but are expected to do so once the strikes are resolved. There’s no word on whether James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, who wrote the last two films, will be back or if Landon will script. Landon wrote or co-wrote all his own directorial efforts.
Paramount is expected to distribute the film once again.
