The classic horror monster The Blob is coming back to the big screen, courtesy of writer/director David Bruckner. The Wrap reports that Bruckner (The Night House, Hellraiser) is developing a reimagining of the 1958 original.
The original version of The Blob was directed by Irvin Yeaworth and starred Steve McQueen, becoming a major hit at the time as it capitalized on the era’s science fiction-horror craze. It centered on a carnivorous alien blob that lands in a small community in Pennsylvania and threatens the town, growing larger and more aggressive as it eats the living.
The Blob received a 1972 sequel, Beware! The Blob, as well as a 1988 remake from Chuck Russell. Neither film was remotely as successful as the original. There have been various attempts to bring it to the big screen again, but none have been successful.
