The Exorcist: Deceiver is looking for a new director, with David Gordon Green no longer on board to helm the sequel. Deadline reports that Green, who directed The Exorcist: Believer, has stepped back from directing the film as his schedule is full with the new Ben Stiller movie Nutcrackers and The Righteous Gemstones season four. A new director is being sought for the film.

Universal has undated Deceiver, which was previously set to release on April 18th, 2025. That spot has been filled by Lionsgate’s Michael Jackson biopic, which Universal is distributing overseas.

Deceiver is set to be the second film in a trilogy that Universal and Blumhouse paid a total of $400 million for the rights to make. The Exorcist: Believer earned low reviews from critics and grossed $136.2 million worldwide against a $30 million budget.
