Documentary On Andy Kaufman In The Works

A new documentary on iconic comedian and sometime-professional wrestler Andy Kaufman is reportedly being made. The Wrap reports that Alex Braverman is directing a documentary centered on the Taxi star, who was known for his outlandish stunts that included wrestling women as the Inter-Gender Wrestling Champion, a feud with Jerry Lawler, and more.

The documentary is being produced by Morgan Neville’s Braverman and Josh and Benny Safdie’s Elara Pictures. Neville will produce and the Safdies will executive produce along with Rick Rubin, Chuck Braverman, and Wavelength founder and CEO Jenifer Westphal.

The documentary will include from Kaufman’s key films, some of his early work, and more. Kaufman’s friend and creative partner Bob Zmuda and girlfriend Lynne Margulies Osgood will appear in the film, which does not have studio attached at this time.

“No matter how many times I watch Andy Kaufman’s work, I feel like I’m seeing a magic trick for the very first time,” Braverman said of the project. “I’m excited for our project to honor that. This is the film I’ve wanted to make my entire life.”
