We now know who will play the villain in the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie, and it is none other than Hugh Grant. Deadline reports that Grant will play the primary antagonist in the film and that Sophia Lillis, who played young Beverly in the It duology, has also joined the film.

The two join Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page, Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, and Justice Smith in the film, which is being directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley who wrote the most recent script. Plot details are under wraps, though a report from late 2019 suggested that it could involve the Eye of Vecna, a well-known artifact from the popular tabletop roleplaying game’s lore. The eye comes from the archlich Vecna so if that reports is true, Grant could conceivably be playing the archlich himself or perhaps the current wearer/user of the eye, which grants powers of true sight and disintegration among other capabilities.

Paramount and Hasbro are also reportedly developing a separate television series based on D&D. The Dungeons & Dragons film is currently set to release on May 27th, 2022.
