John Cena in Talks to Star in Duke Nukem Movie

The Rock had his Doom, and John Cena will have his Duke Nukem. THR reports that Cena is in talks to star in a movie based the popular video game franchise about the infamously non-PC science fiction action here. Paramount Pictures has the film rights to the video game and is developing it as a star vehicle for Cena.

Paramount also produces the Transformers and Daddy’s Home franchises, both of which have or will feature Cena. He had smaller roles in both Daddy’s Home films and will star in the upcoming Bumblebee.

No director is yet set, and a writer is being sought soon. The Duke Nukem games saw their heyday in the 1990s with three video games, all focusing on the titular hero who combined action hero tropes into one in a satirical style. Duke Nukem, Duke Nukem II and Duke Nukem 3D were all incredibly successful, although the incredibly long-delayed Duke Nukem Forever (eventually released in 2011 after several difficulties in development) was largely seen as a disaster both critically and commercially.

Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes will produce the film.
