Jonathan Majors Out As Kang In MCU After Assault & Harassment Conviction
Jonathan Majors is officially out of the MCU, with Marvel dropping the actor following a conviction on charges of assault and harassment. THR reports that the actor, who played Kang in Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania and Loki, has been fired from the role after he was convicted on Monday of reckless assault in the third degree and guilty of harassment relating to an incident involving his then-partner Grace Jabbari.
The trial went two weeks and was in relation to an arrest in March after Majors assaulted Jabbari during an argument in a taxi in New York. Majors was found not guilty of two additional charges, intentional assault in the third degree and aggravated harassment in second degree. Majors maintained his innocence throughout the legal proceedings and chose not to take the stand. The jury delivered the verdict after less than three days of deliberation. Majors faces up to a year in prison, with sentencing set for February 6th.
With Kane, Marvel had Majors set for a key role in the MCU. Initially introduced as a Kang variant in Loki, Majors played Kang in Quantumania and was set to reprise the role going forward in at least Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which is set for release on May 1st, 2026. THR reports that the film is going ahead and that Michael Waldron was brought on board in November to work on a new draft of the script.
Recasting is not unprecedented territory for Marvel, who previously recast Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle in the role of James Rhodes/War Machine as well as replacing Edward Norton with Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk. Those were due to financial and creative considerations, respectively. It is not yet clear how Marvel will handle Majors’ exit creatively but if the film does in fact move ahead, a recasting would seem likely.
Majors’ fall came as he was considered one of the fastest-rising names in Hollywood. He built his name with roles in projects like Lovecraft Country and Da 5 Bloods before joining the MCU and co-starring in Creed III. His next role was to be the bodybuilding drama Magazine Dreams that premiered at Sundance this year which Disney’s Searchlight bought, but that film has been in limbo due to the legal case. Majors was dropped by his PR firm and managers after the initial incident. He is still repped by WME, but that could easily change following the conviction.
