Mel Gibson To Co-Write and Direct The Wild Bunch Remake
Deadline reports that Mel Gibson will direct a remake of Sam Peckinpah’s 1969 Western film The Wild Bunch for Warner Bros. He will also write the script with Bryan Bagby and executive produce.
Here’s a synopsis: In The Wild Bunch, an aging group of outlaws look for one last big score as the traditional American West is disappearing around them and the industrial age is taking over. They are pursued by a posse led by a former partner they double crossed.
The original film was written by Peckinpah and Walon Green, with Wiliam Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan, Edmond O’Brien, Warren Oates, Jaime Sanchez and Ben Johnson starring. It was considered very violent for its time and has since been been called a classic. Warner Bros. has been trying to remake it for years.
