Power of the Dog, Succession, Ted Lasso Top Critics Choice Awards

The 27th Annual Critics Choice Awards took place on Sunday night with The Power of the Dog, Succession, and Ted Lasso leading the night. Netflix’s western film picked up two awards — Best Picture and Best Director — to lead the way for films while Ted Lasso took four wins and Succession snagged three lead the TV series categories.

Succession won the awards for Best Drama Series and both Best Supporting awards for a Drama Series (Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook. Meanwhile, Apple TV+’s sports comedy won Best Comedy Series, Best Actor in a Comedy (Jason Sudeikis), Best Supporting Actor In a Comedy (Brett Goldstein) and Best Supporting Actress In a Comedy (Hannah Waddingham). HBO’s Mare of Easttown led the limited series, winning Best Limited Series and Best Actress in such (Kate Winslet).

Power of the Dog gets a boost in momentum as we head toward the Academy Awards later this month, as do Campion, Best Actor winner Will Smith (King Richard), Best Actress Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), Best Supporting Actress Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) and Best Supporting Actor Troy Kotsur (CODA). All are considered frontrunners for their respective Academy Awards. The Mitchells vs the Machines picked up something of an upset win for Best Animated Feature, improving its momentum a bit as it contends with frontrunner Encanto at the Oscars.
