SAG-AFTRA Reaches Tentative Deal With Studios & Streamers, Strike To End
The long-running actor’s strike appears to be at an end, as SAG-AFTRA has reached a tentative deal with Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. Deadline reports that the actor’s guild and the AMPTP have reached a deal on a new contract and that according to their sources, the strike will be over as of 12:01 PM PT on Thursday.
The strike has been ongoing for 118 days, and its end will bring Hollywood back into business in the coming weeks. The SAG-AFTRA deal with the studios and streamers comes a matter of weeks after the WGA reached their deal with the AMPTP. That deal was ratified less than a month ago.
The guild and the AMPTP have been in renewed talks since October 24th. Details on the new deal are not yet clear, but it is said to include heavy improvements in wagers and bonuses as well as strong protections against the use of AI.
If the deal is finally agreed to, eligible members of SAG-AFTRA will vote to sign off on it. It is possible that productions could be restarted quickly with the strike ending.
