Sam Raimi Confirms He’s Directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
It’s official: Sam Raimi is directing the Doctor Strange sequel. Raimi spoke with Arrow in the Head discussing his new Quibi horror anthology series 50 States of Fright and confirmed the report from February that he is on board to helm Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Raimi said, “I loved Doctor Strange as a kid, but he was always after Spider-Man and Batman for me, he was probably at number five for me of great comic book characters. He was so original, but when we had that moment in Spider-Man 2 I had no idea that we would ever be making a Doctor Strange movie, so it was really funny to me that coincidentally that line was in the movie. I gotta say I wish we had the foresight to know that I was going to be involved in the project.”
Raimi is taking over from Scott Derrickson, who departed the project due to creative differences. The film is currently set for release on November 5, 2021 and will take a horror approach, with stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen confirmed to reprise their roles as the titular character and the Scarlet Witch.
