Stargirl Renewed By CW For Season Two, Will Not Be on DC Universe
The CW is giving Stargirl a second season, though that season won’t be airing (in first run, at least) on DC Universe. Variety reports that the broadcast network has ordered another run of the show, which originated on DC Universe and was arranged to air on The CW as a summer series the day after its DCU premieres.
The show has been a solid performer for The CW in terms of summer shows, with a 0.2 rating in the 18 – 49 demographic which is on par with the other DC series. It is the latest series from the DC Universe streaming platform to have a home elsewhere; The CW announced in May that the one-and-done Swamp Thing series would air on The CW this fall, while Doom Patrol’s second season has been airing on both DCU and HBO Max.
Based on Geoff Johns’ comic book character, Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) as she leads an unlikely group of young heroes against villains of the past. In addition to Bassinger, it stars Luke Wilson, Amy Smart, Trae Romano, Cameron Gellman, Yvette Monreal, Anjelika Washington, Meg DeLacy, Neil Jackson, Jake Austin Walker, Christopher James Baker and Hunter Sansone.
