Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson and Others To Star In Cats
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden and Ian McKellen are set to star in the long-awaited Hollywood adaptation of the Broadway musical Cats from Working Title and Universal. The film will be directed by Tom Hooper from a script by Lee Hall, based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical (based on T.S. Eliot’s novel Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats).
The film follows a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make the “Jellicle choice” about which cat will go to the Heaviside Layer and come back for a new life. Hudson will play a former “glamour cat” named Grizabella that is shunned by the Jellicles. McKellen will play the elder leader Old Dueteronomy, with Swift as the red cat Bombalurina.
The musical is the fourth-longest running show in Broadway history. It was the longest running show in history between 1997 and 2006 and includes songs like “Memory.”
