The Pope’s Exorcist Sequel Moving Forward, Producer Says
Russell Crowe is set to get back on his motor scooter, with a The Pope’s Exorcist sequel in the works. Jeff Katz, who was a producer on the first film, posted to Twitter to announce that a sequel to the film is now moving ahead. He wrote:
“Amorth Nation — I just got the call.
IT’S OFFICIALLY HAPPENING!!!
“È un seguito, amici miei.”
Thank you to the amazing #ThePopesExorcist fans. You made this happen. Gas up your Lambretta – and get ready to ride.”
The 2023 film starred Crowe as Father Gabriele Amorth, a real-life exorcist for the Catholic Church who allegedly performed over 100,000 exorcisms for the Vatican. Amorth wrote a number of books based on his experiences, with events from the books forming the bases of the first movie. While the reviews for the movie were mixed, it grossed $72.9 million worldwide against a budget of just $18 million to make it a profitable venture for Sony Pictures.
