M’Baku will be back for the Black Panther sequel, as confirmed by actor Winston Duke. Duke, who played the memorable role in the 2018 Black Panther as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, confirmed to Collider that he will reprise the role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

“It was very emotional to read the script,” Duke said, referencing the return to production without the late Chadwick Boseman. “It was emotional to pack to go back to set. But we’re all a bit of a family now and we grieve together, and we’re making something really special.”

Duke joins a cast that includes Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Letitia Wright as Shuri, and Angela Bassett as Romonda. Tenoch Huerta is reportedly set to play the villain in the film, which will not feature T’challa following Boseman’s passing. Ryan Coogler wrote and is back to direct the film, which is currently set to release on July 8th, 2022.
