Sean Combs Arrested In New York Following Grand Jury Indictment
Sean “Diddy” Combs has been arrested following an indictment by a grand jury. THR reports that the music mogul, producer and rapper was arrested on Monday evening in Manhattan and taken into custody by Homeland Security Investigations. The indictment is sealed and specific charges are not clear.
CNN reports that a source familiar with the situation said that negotiations’ for Combs’ surrender had been ongoing and that the sealed indictment was voted on Monday. Combs’ attorney confirmed the arrest to the outlet, issuing a statement in which he maintained Combs’ innocence.
The statement that Combs’ attorney issued to multiple outlets read:
“We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Sean “Diddy” Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children, and working to uplift the Black community. He is an imperfect person, but he Is not a criminal. To his credit Mr. Combs has been nothing but cooperative with this investigation and he voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges. Please reserve your judgment until you have all the facts. These are the acts of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and he looks forward to clearing his name in court.”
Combs has been under fire as a number of lawsuits have piled up against him. Of the 10 lawsuits, nine directly accuse him of sexual assault and federal investigators began peparing to bring his accusers in front of a grand jury in May. Federal investigators raided his homes in March as part of an investigation into human trafficking.
Combs has maintained his innocence throughout, though he issued an apology in May after video leaked of him assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassie Venture back in 2016 at a Los Angeles hotel.
