Tekashi 6ix9ine Asks For Early Release Due to Health Fears Over Coronavirus

March 22, 2020 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Tekashi 6ix9ine only has a few more months left in prison, but he is asking for an early release due to concerns about contracting novel coronavirus. TMZ reports that the rapper, who is serving time on nine counts of federal charges, has asked through his lawyer for an early release because he is a high risk for serious and potentially life-threatening symptoms from the virus.

6ix9ine was sentenced to 24 months in prison in December after cutting a deal with prosecutors and pleading guilty to charges of racketeering, conspiracy, firearms offenses, and narcotics trafficking. Because he got 13 months credit for time served, he is set to be released later this year. However, his lawyer has argued that 6ix9ine suffers from asthma and was hospitalized late last year for bronchitis and sinusitis. The lawyer also says he has had shortness of breath but has not been allowed to see a doctor.

The lawyer wrote a letter to the judge in the case on Sunday night. No word on when a hearing or ruling might happen.
