411’s ECW on SyFy Report 9.08.09

Welcome to the ECW on SyFy! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper. And I am back after some computer issues shut me down last week. Kind of hard to type a review without a working screen on the laptop, you know.

We open with the usual video and kick it down to Matt Striker and Josh Matthews at ringside. They hype up he main event for tonight as Christian teams up with Tommy Dreamer to face Kozlov and Big Zeke.

Hurricane vs. Paul Burchill (with Katie Lea)

And the crowd goes nuts for the Hurricane. I’m not totally surprised here, he is super over, unlike his opponent. The bell rings and they lockup as the Hurricane gets backed into the corner. Hurricane gets a go behind, but again gets backed into the corner. Hurricane blocks a cheap shot and hits a few shots. Hurricane sent to the corner, but he hits a back elbow and a body press from the second rope for a two count. Burchill gains control quickly an whips Hurricane. Hurricane blocks the arm drag and hits one of his own before locking in the Octopus. But Burchill lifts him up and drops him down on his face. Burchill connects with a huge back suplex for a near fall. Burchill goes to the rear headlock, but Hurricane fights to his feet. Burchill stops him with a short arm clothesline and gets a two count. Hurricane in the corner and Burchill hits the charging double knee strike for another two count. Burchill with a huge backbreaker and locks in a submission. Hurricane fights up and ducks the clothesline, getting a roll up for two. Hurricane slips out of another suplex, but nearly has his head taken off. Hurricane avoids Burchill, sending the big man to the floor. Hurricane dives up and over, crashing into Burchill. The ref starts his count and Burchill shoves Hurricane into the ring apron. He the does a back flip with a kick to the head of Hurricane! Yes, I did just say that. The ref is up to a five count as we go to commercial at 5:25.

We are back at 8:25 and Burchill has Hurricane grounded with a chinlock. Burchill hits a knee to the gut and whips him across, but misses with a shoulder charge and hits the ring post. Hurricane comes off the ropes and hits the Hurricane Press! Hurricane with a neck breaker for a two count. Hurricane heads up top and hits a flying cross body for a two count. Burchill sent to the corner and Hurricane walks into a boot. Burchill tries to go up top, but Hurricane catches him and follows him up. But Burchill blocks Hurricane and hits a Bam Bam Slam off the top for a near fall. Hurricane sent to the corner, but now he gets the elbow up. Hurricane goes to the second rope and hits the Hurricane-ana for a two count. Hurricane tries the Shining Wizard, but Katie Lea gives a distraction. Hurricane then misses the kick and Burchill shoves off Hurricane. Burchill the runs into her sister and walks into the Eye of the Hurricane for the pinfall at 12:00!

Winner: The Hurricane

Match Rating: *** Very good match from these two. The offense was incredible, especially from Burchill.

We then get highlights from last week of Burchill’s bodyguards getting nailed down with kendo sticks by Dreamer and Christian.

Backstage, Dreamer and Christian talk about how Regal has no chance of taking over ECW with the help of Jackson and Kozlov. They are ready for a fight and are not backing down.

Shelton Benjamin and Sheamus vs. Yoshi Tatsu and Goldust

So much for Goldust and Sheamus being done after last week. The bell rings and Goldust starts with Shelton Benjamin. Shelton gets an arm wrench, but Goldust goes to the headlock and follows with a shoulder block. Shelton kicks Goldust in the gut, but gets whipped into the corner. Shelton shoves off the bulldog and backs him for a tag to Sheamus. Goldust is able to tag in Tatsu, who unloads with kicks. Sheamus in the corner and Tatsu hits another stiff kick, but Shelton distracts him and Sheamus drills him with a clothesline. Sheamus drops an elbow and tags in Shelton. Shelton with a snap mare and a submission. Yoshi gets whipped and hits a sunset flip. Shelton kicks out and misses an elbow drop. Shelton gets dumped to the floor and Goldust goes after him rather than get a tag. Shelton takes advantage and tags in Sheamus, but Tatsu escapes and takes in Goldust. Goldust hits a series of clotheslines and an inverted atomic drop. Sheamus gets knocked to the corner and Shelton gets a tag and drops Goldust hard for the three count out of nowhere at 3:45.

Sheamus looks confused and starts yelling at Shelton for the blind tag before decking him with a huge right hand. Shelton then takes Sheamus down and starts punching away. The rolls to the floor and gets broken up, but not for long as Shelton jumps on Sheamus again and starts pounding away. They get broken up again as we go to commercial.

Winners: Sheamus and Shelton Benjamin

Match Rating: *1/2 This was a weird match that felt like it jammed 8 minutes of action into half the time.

Zack Ryder vs. Rory Fargo

So Ryder is back to squash matches? Really? WWE Universe says that Ryder can’t wait for the new Backstreet Boys album. HA! The bell rings and Ryder starts slapping around Rory, before getting rolled up for a school boy. Ryder yells at the kid as he pummels him and then chokes him on the second rope. Rory punches away, but gets dropped into the second turnbuckle. Ryder connects with a boot wash and a sit-out powerbomb out of the corner. The Zack Attack ends this at 1:30.

Winner: Zack Ryder

Match Rating: ¾* Ryder should not be wasting time with jobbers.

Backstage, Tiffany is giving Tyler Reks a pep talk when Regal walks in with his bodyguards. Reks decides to walk away and Regal complains about Jackson and Kozlov getting attacked last week. Tiffany says it is fair with the cheap attacks they gave in the previous weeks. Regal says last week wasn’t fair, but he will make her proud be becoming ECW Champion.

Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson vs. Christian and Tommy Dreamer

The bell rings with Kozlov and Christian opening the match. Kozlov gets a go behind, but Christian blocks the grounding attempt. Christian gets to the headlock, but Kozlov whips him and hits a nasty shoulder block. Christian fights back with a huge shot that makes Kozlov back up. Big Zeke is tagged in and so is Dreamer. They lockup and Dreamer gets thrown down like a kid. Dreamer fights back with right hands, but Zeke just body slams him. Dreamer whipped off the ropes and puts on the brakes. Jackson charges and Dreamer dodges in, tagging in Christian. Christian hits a dropkick to keep Jackson down and knocks down Kozlov. Christian dives up and over, but gets caught. Dreamer runs off the apron and somersaults down onto Jackson! We go to commercial at 3:10.

Back at 6:30 and Biz Zeke is dropped by Dreamer and an elbow drop follows. Jackson hits a huge shoulder block on Dreamer and tags in Kozlov. Kozlov with a huge shoulder block as well before tagging Jackson back in. Dreamer whipped off the ropes and they hit a double shoulder block. Jackson locks in a double underhook submission before sending him into the corner for a tag to Kozlov. Kozlov hits a series of gut shots and belly to belly suplex for a two count. Kozlov has a grounded waistlock applied, but Dreamer gets to his feet to get rammed into the corner. Dreamer put on the second turnbuckle, but he fights off Kozlov and hits a clothesline. Christian gets the tag and he starts pounding away with no affect. Christian whipped across, but he gets the boot up. Missile Dropkick for the second rope has little effect, but off the top rope works to get a two count. Christian backed into the wrong corner, but he fights out and walks into the massive headbutt to the chest for two. Jackson tagged in and he hits a series of backbreakers and locks in a submission, pulling back the shoulders. Jackson hits a huge back suplex and gets a two count. Christian backed into the corner and Kozlov is tagged in. Kozlov with a series of headbutts and another belly to belly suplex only gets a two count. Kozlov lifts Christian up, but Christian slips out and tries to go for a tag. But Kozlov catches him and hits a fallaway slam for two. Jackson tagged in and he goes back to the underhook submission and hits the suplex for a two count. Kozlov tagged in and he pounds on Christian in the corner. Charging headbutt misses and Christian hits the Tornado DDT! Christian and Kozlov both make the tag and Dreamer hits a high knee and a cross body block! Dreamer has his back suplex blocked, but he gets the neckbreaker. Dreamer goes up top and hits a Bullfrog Splash!! Kozlov breaks up a pin, but he gets sent to the outside with Christian. Regal grabs Dreamer’s leg for a split second, but that is enough. Dreamer turns and walks into the Urinage from Big Zeke for the three count at 16:00. Regal then locks Dreamer in the Regal Stretch for good measure as he stands tall with his Roundtable as we end the program.

Winners: Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson

Match Rating: *** The right team dominated most of this match, but it was overall a very solid main event.
