JBL Says Sami Zayn’s Nine-Day Title Reign Gave Him Real Life

On the latest episode of Something To Wrestle With, the WWE Hall of Famer argued that Sami Zayn’s short world title reign did far more for him than critics realize. Sami Zayn lost the title after nine days to CM Punk on Monday’s Raw.

JBL singled out the promo Sami cut coming out of it as the best he’s seen of Zayn’s. You can check out his comments below:

On Zayn’s Reign as Undisputed WWE Champion:

“You may have given Sami some real life out of here that he wouldn’t have had without these nine days as champion. You may have done something huge for him here. You know, people always say, ‘Oh, he just held it for nine days — Tommy [Rich] originally held it for seven. He held it, that’s the big thing.

“And now he’s got this to bitch about it, and I think it’s awesome. His promo was the best I’ve seen him do, period. I thought it was awesome. And if that’s the Sami Zayn we get out of this, that’s a win for me… I saw the promo Sami cut, where at the end of it, he said, ‘This motherf**ker — obviously he’s not putting that on television, but it was a hell of a promo.”

On Preferring CM Punk as a Heel:

“I prefer Punk as a heel. I think he’s a great heel. I think he’s a good babyface, too, but I think he’s a great heel… As far as Punk, I like CM Punk, and I like him as a babyface — I just don’t like babyfaces. I hate them all, I really do. I think he’d be a great heel, and I love him as a heel.”
