Callum Newman made his return from injury at the first night of the NJPW G1 Climax 36 on Saturday evening, and a new report has details on when he was cleared. Newman returned at last night’s show and defeated Yuya Uemura in a B Block tournament match. The bout was Newman’s first since he hurt is shoulder during his IWGP Heavyweight Championship loss to Yota Tsuji at NJPW Dominion on June 14th.

According to The Wrestling Observer, Newman did not get cleared until Monday for last night’s match. Dave Meltzer said there had been a real chance that Newman might have not made it in time for the first week of the tournament, and may not necessarily be at 100% yet.

The former champion gave an update on the injury at the start of the month, saying:

““Dislocated shoulder

Bone bruise

Rear delt and tricep damaged

Still gonna win the g1″

Callum Newman will be teaming with Zane Jay against Dick Togo and Ren Narita on the next G1 show on July 18th, and then has his next tournament match the next night against Narita.
