-We are back with our weekly WWE Block on A&E. First up is Greatest Moments and this one is going to make me very happy. Dig It! Let’s get to it!

-Michael Cole is our host and narrator! He does his own Macho impression and mentions Savage being in Spider-Man

10. A Macho Pair
-July 30, 1985

-Great stuff here as Randy Savage was a megastar from his debut and they had an angle where every big manager was wanting to work with him. Savage then brings out Miss Elizabeth and the world fell in love. Hoagn (2023) says it was a real story and that’s why it worked. Yes, Miss Elizabeth was the first crush I remember having in elementary school (besides the girl I bought chocolates for and gave up a Troy Aikman rookie card to sit next to in the cafeteria in elementary school. Who knew he would turn into “Troy Aikman?”).

9. Yesterday’s Newspaper
-Dec. 3, 1985

-Gene (2014) says Macho was a delight to interview and he could come up with things off the top of his head. We see a promo where he brings in a newspaper and mentions Hulk Hogan and Tito Santana are yesterday’s news. JBL says you could not explain The Macho Man and you have to see him to get him.

8. Snapping Diamonds
-Great American Bash ‘97

-It’s DDP vs. Savage so it’s awesome! Their rivalry was just tremendous and is the main reason DDP became a Main Event player and future World Champion. My review for this show can be found here. Hogan says it was two guys that knew what to do in the ring and were great for each other. No kidding! DDP calls it a hell of a match.

7. A Savage Career Match
-WrestleMania VII

-I LOVE THIS MATCH! Warrior says Savage brought the best out of him. Hogan (2024) calls Savage/Warrior out of the greatest matches of all time. Preach! Warrior gets the win with one foot on Savage’s chest but that’s only the beginning. Sherri turns on Savage and Miss Elizabeth rushes the ring, throws Sherri out and reunites with Savage. Fans cried and I still smile every time I see this. It was my Match of the Year for 1991 and I stand by it. My review is here.

6. A Match Made in Heaven
-SummerSlam 91

-From Mania VII to SummerSlam as they get married on screen and it closes the show in MSG. Prichard says it was Beauty and The Beast. Mickie James notes it was the first and last time a wrestling wedding went off without a hitch. True, but the reception sure didn’t. My review is here!

5. Cup of Coffee
-March 23, 1987

-You know the promo! Just before Mania III Savage delivers a classic promo where he has a cup of coffee as it’s Steamboat’s “cup of coffee with the big time.” It’s just so good! How can you not love this man or just feel the awesome star power blasting through your TV?

4. The Mega Powers Unite
-Sept. 23, 1987

-The wrestling world shook when Miss Elizabeth pulled Hogan from the back to help Savage. Bret Hat notes everyone was excited to see the two of them together. It was mind blowing and the moment they shook hands you can just imagine the dollar signs running through Vince’s head. Honky Tonk Man says it meant a lot to Randy and changed his career.

3. The Macho King
-Sept. 23, 1989

-Randy beats Jim Duggan to become King of the Ring and takes The Macho King name. Punk notes that Savage was smart enough to know he was elevating the King concept and had to go all out with it. You don’t have to ask Macho twice to throw himself into something. Just amazing and if not for King Booker, I don’t know if anyone ever ran with the crown as much as Savage did.

-Commercials!

2. Dragon Madness
-WrestleMania III

-Quite possibly the greatest match of all time and it still holds up to this day. This match made countless people want to become pro-wrestlers. If you want to see a perfect wrestling match, go watch Savage/Steamboat at Mania III. My very old review is here.

1. Savage Reigns Supreme
-WrestleMania IV

-This was clearly going to be the top choice and it makes all the sense in the world. Before Shawn Michaels, Randy Savage was Mr. WrestleMania and winning 4 matches in one night on his way to his first WWF Championship is a big reason why. Ted Dibiase says he enjoyed working with Randy thoroughly. Lanny says that night elevated Randy to super stardom and he was living his dream. Again, my old review.

-This was great, but boy did they miss some big moments. Not having his WWF Title win over Flair at Mania VIII was a big miss. They probably should have included his first WCW World Championship win as well. The newspaper promo could have hit the cutting room floor to include the win over Flair. The IC Title win over Tito likely should have been on here as well. That just shows the depth of great moments from Savage. Basically, he was awesome and it’s why he is one of my two favorite wrestlers of all time. Thanks for reading!
