411’s WWE Smackdown Report 12.22.06

December 22, 2006 | Posted by Brad Borchardt

Welcome everybody to my first SmackDown! review for 411Mania! I’ll be here every week to bring you results every Friday night. I actually made my 411Mania debut this week for the 3 R’s with some ECW insight. Check it out this week and every week as it is always a great read. I’m going to do something a little bit different with the SmackDown! reviews. We will be having a point system starting January 5, as we will begin the competition for WWE SmackDown! Wrestler of the Year for 2007! Here is how it will work:

1. The winner of each match will receive two points unless it is by count out or DQ in which they will receive one point.
2. The winner of a title match will receive an additional point for retaining and two additional points for winning a belt.
3. The winner of the main event will get an additional point.
4. The winner of a specialty match will get an additional point.
5. In a tag team match, a wrestler on the winning team that does not pick up the win will get one point. If the match is a DQ or Count Out, the legal man will get one point and the illegal man will get half a point.
6. If the match ends in a draw, all wresters involved will get half a point for participating.
7. If it is an elimination match, each elimination is worth one point.
8. If the match is for example, a Best Two Out of Three Falls Match or an Iron Man Match, each fall is worth one point.
9. I will keep track if a SmackDown! wrestler competes on RAW, ECW on Sci Fi, PPVs, or other specials and if a RAW Superstar or ECW Extremist can defeat a SmackDown! wrestler, they will get points as well.

I hope that is all simple enough but if it isn’t, people will get the hang of it. The standings do not start until January 5, but I’ll be doing the point system till then so readers can get use to it.

Let’s see what’s on tap for tonight courtesy of those sweethearts at WWE.com!

  • The Animal To Open The Show: For those of you who can’t break that code- The WWE World Heavyweight Champion Batista will start the show.
  • Brothers of Destruction in action: After burying two young talents like MVP and Ken Kennedy at Armageddon, they will continue to rule the roster on SmackDown! Who will be buried?
  • U.S. Championship on the line: Chavo Guerrero will get shot #3 at Chris Benoit for his WWE United States Championship.

The show starts with King Booker and Finlay demanding a rematch against Batista and John Cena to Teddy Long. Booker wants the best competition so Long makes Booker and Finlay vs. Kane and Undertaker!

    -Opening Theme-

We are taped in front of a live studio audience in Hampton, Virginia!

The WWE World Heavyweight Champion Batista starts things off this week and he is dressed to wrestle. He wants to wish all us SmackDown! fans a happy holiday. He said he had a bumpy year but he finished strong going into Armageddon with his man John Cena as they whipped on King Booker and Finlay and winning back the championship at Survivor Series. He then gets interrupted! Is it by King Booker? Finlay? No, it’s Santa Claus. Santa gives Michael Cole a Rowdy Roddy Piper dvd and shirt. JBL and Cole fight over it. Quite funny. MY GAWD!!! CANDY CANE TO BATISTA!!! Oh wait, lead pipe. My bad. Out comes the ghost of Christmas Mac Daddyness…Teddy Long. He wants to give Santa a present, a match with Batista!

Match #1: Batista vs. Santa Claus

Santa attacks Batista in the corner but Batista fights back. Santa hits an arm bar take down to Batista and works on the arm. Batista gets the comeback with some clotheslines and a back body drop. Spear by Batista. Batista rips of Santa’s hat and beard and it’s Sylvan! Spinebuster and Batista Bomb and it’s over.

Winner- Batista via pin fall on Santa Grenier…Sylvan Claus….fine, the Big Fat Jolly French Guy
    Points- Batista (2 Points)

We get a picture recap of Chris Benoit vs. Chavo Guerrero at Armageddon courtesy of WWE Magazine. They announce that the rematch is coming up next!

We get some previews for Tribute to the Troops this Monday night. Watch it. It’s like the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania, you need to see it every year.

Match #2: WWE United States Championship: Chavo Guerrero vs. Chris Benoit ©

They tie up to start the match and work on each other in the corner. Benoit with a thunderous slap to Chavo. Benoit hits a big Irish whip and then a snap suplex for two. Chavo is able to fight back with some punches and kicks. Scoop slam and elbow drop by Chavo for a two count. Benoit hits a drop toe hold and goes for the Crossface but Chavo gets to the ropes. Chavo continues with the kicks and then an Irish whip. Chavo then begins to work on the back like he did at Armageddon. Benoit fights out of it and gets a two count with the small package. Chavo went for another scoop slam but Benoit reverses! One German suplex…goes for the second but Chavo fights out. Benoit goes to toss Chavo outside the ring but they both fall out as we head for a break.

He gets behind Chavo and hits three German suplexes. Flying head butt half way across the ring for a two count. Benoit sets up Chavo on the top rope and goes for the superplex but gets countered. Chavo goes for the Frog Splash but Benoit gets the knees up. Benoit goes for the Cross Face but Vicki Guerrero hits Benoit in the back of the head with the United States Championship to cause the DQ. Benoit leaves the ring with the belt as Chavo and Vicki argue in the ring. Chavo pokes Vicki and she trips. Benoit comes back to the ring to see how she is but Chavo jumps him from behind and hits him with the US Championship. Good match until the ending.

    Winner- Chris Benoit via disqualification
Points- Chris Benoit (2 Points; 1 for the win by DQ, 1 for retaining)

We go to the back and King Booker and Finlay are worried about their match with the Brothers of Destruction. Finlay says this can be an opportunity for them though and they agree they can take them down.

    -Commercial-

We come back with the longest reigning champion in Sports Entertainment, Gregory Helms! He gets on the mic and says the only thing he wants is some competition and he wants to move up to the heavyweight. This brings out the Boogeyman. Way to waist Helms WWE. Thanks. They brawl and Boogeyman no sells against anything Helms does. Helms gets out of there when Boogeyman pulls out the worms. Tony Chimmel gets on the mic and introduces the Boogeyman and says he is coming to get ya! Well, Boogeyman takes offense and makes him eat worms until Tony runs out. WTF?!?

They show Joey Mercury in the back and he is going to talk about his injury from Armageddon. If you have not seen his face yet, check it out and you’ll have some more respect for what these guys do. Hopefully he gets a push when he gets back full time.

    -Commercial-

We are back and Joey Mercury is coming down to the ring. Fans give him a mixed reaction. He gets on the mic and talks about the injury he suffered at Armageddon and shows the footage from Armageddon. Fans give him a round of applause after the replay. He holds two people responsible for what happened to him and they are Matt and Jeff Hardy. Because of the Hardy Boyz, he has lost 50% of the vision of his left eye, he has lost his looks, and had to have all the stitches. Out comes Matt Hardy. He gets on the mic and tells Joey that nobody wanted that to happen. He wasn’t injured on purpose though, it was competition and goes on to say that any of them could have been hurt. Matt goes to leave but Joey says it was their fault. He then asks if Matt wants to fight him and dares him to swing at him. He pushes Matt and demands him to fight him but Matt won’t. Joey then brings out Johnny Nitro from RAW to fight Matt Hardy.

Match #3: RAW’s Johnny Nitro vs. Matt Hardy

Nitro jumps Hardy before the bell but Matt fights back with punches. Nitro rolls out of the ring and takes Hardy with him as they brawl on the outside. Nitro throws Hardy back in the ring and aggressively attacks Hardy. Hardy comes back with the Splash/Bulldog combo for a two count. Nitro brawls with Hardy and Hardy goes for the Side Effect but Nitro counters. Nitro goes to the outside and gets a ladder from under the ring as we go to break.

    -Commercial-

We come back as Hardy hits a back drop from the top of the turnbuckle on Nitro for a two count. During the break, Hardy hit a baseball slide on the ladder to Nitro and the refs took the ladder away. Hardy goes for the cover after the back suplex from the top rope and gets a two count. Nitro drives Hardy to the turnbuckle. Melina distracts Hardy and Nitro nails a kick to the head on Hardy and he falls to the outside. Nitro rolls him back in the ring for a two count. Nitro hits a wicked kick to the chest on Hardy and then catapults Hardy’s neck to the bottom rope. Nitro goes for a springboard spinning kick but Hardy steps out of the way and hits a big clothesline. Both men get to their feet and Matt hits him with some punches and a kick to the head for a two count. Side Effect by Hardy for a two count. Hardy now hits a reverse neckbreaker and hits the “AHHHHH!!!! I’m On The Top Rope So Look At Me!” leg drop and gets a two count. Hardy goes for a Twist of Fate but Nitro counters. Hardy goes for it again and Nitro counters again but this time with a backslide and gets the win after he puts his feet on the ropes. Great match between these two.

Winner- RAW’s Johnny Nitro via pin fall
    Points- Johnny Nitro (2 Points)

We get some hype for the main event and JBL announces he is going to the ring to confront Teddy Long about what happened at Armageddon between Kane and MVP.

    -Commercial-

JBL is in the ring and he is upset that Teddy Long brought back the Inferno Match. MVP was burnt at Armageddon and JBL is pissed and he blames Long as he shows the footage from the match. JBL calls it garbage, not entertainment. He demands that Long comes out to apologize to him, the fans, and MVP. Long doesn’t come and JBL threatens to sue. JBL then said sense Long won’t come out, he will put the blame on the people who cheer for this crap. He goes off on a very entertaining rant. He goes on to say that the fans have embarrassed him and the country. JBL could very well be SmackDown’s MVP with his mic skills alone.

    -Commercial-

Match #4: Ashley and Layla vs. Jillian Hall and Kristal

If the match isn’t like the Hardy Boyz vs. MNM from December To Dismember, I will be disappointed. Ashley and Kristal start the match. Ashley hits a kick and then an elbow to the face. Body slam to Kristal and tag to Layla as they hit a double elbow drop. Kristal gets the tag to Jillian. Layla with a kick but Jillian take her down and slams her head down for a two count. Backbreaker to Layla by Jillian for a two count. Jillian goes all Tajiri on us with the springboard elbow but Layla counters and tags to Ashley. Ashley hits the head scissors and then a Hurricanrana until Kristal interferes. Jillian tried to cover Ashley with her feet on the ropes but Layla breaks it up. Ashley hits the Star Struck on Jillian for the win. Just listen to the commentary of the match by JBL, close your eyes, and you have a four star match.

    Winners- Ashley and Layla
Points- Ashley (2 Points), Layla (1 Point)

Michael Cole now interviews Vladimir Kozlov. He is excited to compete in America and WWE.

Tag to Finlay. Finlay gets several shots on Taker until he gets hit with a big DDT. Tag to Kane. Booker in the ring now and Kane works on them both. Splash in the corner to both men. Side slam to Booker for a two count. All four men in the ring and Kane and Taker hit stereo Big Boots. Finlay and Booker go outside the ring to recover and we go to commercial.

Kane hits a suplex and Finlay breaks up the pin. Tag to Undertaker. Taker works on Booker in the corner but the King fights back. Finlay gets tagged in and exchanges blows with Taker until he gets met with a Big Boot. Snake Eyes to Finlay and another Big Boot to Finlay. Tag to Kane. Taker goes flying at Finlay but misses and lands outside. Tag to Booker but he is met with a Big Boot by Kane. Kane goes to the top but is met with a heel kick by Booker. Booker with another big kick to Kane as he tags Finlay. Finlay now works on the head on Kane. On the outside, Booker nails the Undertaker with a steel chair. Tag to Booker and hits Kane with a heel kick for two. Finlay goes for the shillelagh and hit Undertaker with it. Tag to Finlay as they pick apart Kane. Booker and Kane now clothesline each other and Taker hits the Big Boot on Finlay. Tag to Finlay and hot take to Undertaker and he cleans house. Taker goes to Double Chokeslam both Booker and Finlay but double low blow. Kane now in the ring and they hit stereo Chokeslams. Undertaker hits the Tombstone on Finlay for the win!

    Winners- Kane and Undertaker
Points- Undertaker (3 Points; 2 for the pin, 1 for main event) Kane (2 Points; 1 for not getting the win, 1 for the main event)

    -End of Show-

Pretty good show this week coming off a pay-per-view. The main event even surprised me on how good it was despite there being way too many big boots. Three good matches this week. SmackDown! is the best wrestling show around.

Here would be your standing but remember, the slate gets cleared January 5th and we will start the official points then. I will also have more detailed information in 2007!

    #1: Undertaker (3 Points)
#2, #3, #4, #5, and #6: Ashley, Batista, Chris Benoit, Johnny Nitro, and Kane (2 Points)
    #7: Layla (1 Point)

Send me stuff! You can talk about my recap, SmackDown!, wrestling in general, just about whatever you want and I’ll post a couple every week! I hope you enjoyed my first recap and hopefully you’ll read it every week! Watch Tribute To the Troops this Monday!
