Backstage Note on Injury Status of AEW Star Hechicero

Hechicero is suddenly facing a question mark heading into this week’s AEW Dynamite. Right now, it is unclear whether he will be able to compete as scheduled.
The AEW star lost clean to Roderick Strong at CMLL Viernes Espectacular in Arena México. He was then pulled from Monday’s main event in Monterrey. This led Dave Meltzer to speculate on the nature of the injury.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer pointed out a key detail. Hechicero had also been advertised for another show in Villahermosa on the same day. That overlap has led him to speculate that the injury announcement may be related to scheduling issues rather than a serious physical problem (via Wrestling Inc).
Meltzer stated, “Because tonight, Hechicero was supposed to be in the main event in Monterrey, and they announced that he was injured on Friday.” He continued, “So, you would be led to believe to just go, ‘Oh. He was probably hurt in the match.’ However, he was also booked in Villahermosa today, as well, so that injury thing may or may not be legit.”
Strong’s victory over Hechicero carried major stakes. The win earned Strong a title shot against Claudio Castagnoli for the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship on Saturday’s AEW Collision. Meanwhile, on Dynamite, Hechicero is set to team with Lance Archer and Rocky Romero of the Don Callis Family to face Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and Daniel Garcia following last week’s Collision brawl.
Meltzer believes Hechicero’s status will be clearer if he appears on AEW Dynamite as advertised.
