– During a recent interview with PWMania, former WWE Superstar Aliyah discussed her career, potentially returning to WWE or signing with TNA or AEW, her thoughts on Tony Khan, and more. Below are some highlights from PWMania:
Aliyah on having the fastest WWE win in history: “I wasn’t their main star, the one they were actively trying to highlight. So the fact that I did what I did and got the reaction I got? That just goes to show the crowd connected with me for what I represented. I was the one-of-one, and that’s powerful. More than the record itself, it proved that despite a lack of wins, storyline setbacks, or where I was positioned on the card, I could still make the audience feel something real. That’s not easy these days, with everything feeling so similar and controlled. But when the crowd reacts like that, it reminds me that authenticity, persistence, and being unapologetically yourself can resonate stronger than anything.”
On her nixed WWE storylines: “There were so many storylines and matches I wish had happened — it’s hard to count. Often, ideas would be pitched or even partially approved, but the final decision always came down to someone else. Sometimes I’d be given a pay-per-view spot, and it wouldn’t get announced, or it would get announced and then taken away almost immediately. At the end of the day I can only control what I can.”
Aliyah on the cost of being a professional wrestler: “I also have to do what’s sustainable for me and my future. The cost of being a professional wrestler, especially at my age, is intense with the maintenance: health insurance, gym, chiropractor, massage, personal trainer, house, food, electricity, supplements, gear, hair, clothes, makeup, hotels, immigration lawyer, accountant, PR rep, rental cars, even the dog sitters — I live alone, so the bills really add up.”
On her wrestling future, and possibly signing with AEW, TNA, or WWE: “Of course I still want to wrestle and make it my career. But I also have to do what’s sustainable for me and my future. The cost of being a professional wrestler is intense — health insurance, training, supplements, gear, travel, even dog sitters, it all adds up.”
Aliyah on the right offer and her thoughts on Tony Khan: “To perform at my best, it has to be the right offer. I really admire what Tony Khan has built for the wrestlers at AEW — the media doesn’t give him enough credit. I’d also love the opportunity to return to WWE, whether that’s on the main roster or NXT. As for TNA, I hope they secure a weekly TV deal, because that would make the pay competitive and open real opportunities for talent. I just know I have so much more to give.”
Aliyah wrestled her last WWE match back in September 2022. She was later released by the promotion in September of the following year.
