Allie Katch On Why She Changed Up Her Name & Gimmick, Having More Freedom After the Change
Allie Katch used to be Allie Kat, and she recently discussed why she changed her name and gimmick. Katch spoke with Fightful for a new interview and talked about why she changed her name and began to change up her cat-like character in summer of 2021, and you can see some highlights below:
On renaming herself Allie Katch: “You can think it’s catch as catch can wrestling. I just think I’m a wrestler now. What other words start with K-A-T? What was I gonna be Everdeen Katniss? No. No! I feel like, if you think me with a knife is bad, me with a bow and arrow is even worse.”
On her previous gimmick and if she’s ever owned a cat: “No. I feel like cats are so weird that there’s so much more to do. There’s so many more things I could have done. No. I don’t have time. I just play with other people’s cats. It’s always like I don’t have a cat, but whoever my roommate is always did. So that was me studying tape. When I was a kid, but when I moved out, I haven’t had a pet since. I travel a lot.”
On how her new gimmick gives her more freedom in the ring: “It makes me think more. You can’t rest on your laurels. Yeah, alright I do the scratch thing, rub my belly thing, yada yada, one, two, let’s go home. I was having fun as a cat, but I feel like I’m having more fun because I’m having to try harder. Then also it’s cool to do stuff that people don’t expect you to do. Now I also try to jump off of high things, too.”
