On the latest episode of The ARN Show, Arn Anderson talked about he decision to have Hulk Hogan win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship from The Giant at Hog Wild 1996.

Anderson shared the opinion that the booking may have come at a significant cost to the Giant’s long-term aura. He noted that once a character of that magnitude is defeated, it is incredibly difficult to regain their special status. You can check out some highlights below:

On The Advice He Gave Paul Wight:

“I used to tell him all the time, and he’ll tell you this: you don’t get a second chance of being a giant. You can screw any normal guy, there can be any kind of shenanigans with a normal-sized wrestler, But you got to be careful, you don’t get a second crack at being a giant.”

On Hogan Spraypainting the WCW World Title:

“Probably had no idea what it was going to evolve into. But that’s where in our business, most of the good stuff happens. It just happens off the cuff, wasn’t planned, it’s an ad lib business. And that’s where you get a lot of the greatest stuff that’s ever happened. Just spur the moment.”

On the Title Change:

“I would have rather he did not take it off The Giant. I feel like the Giant was due and should have had a bigger, more spectacular title run and keep him and Hogan away from each other. I’ve always thought that let it build to that because once you’ve beat a giant, how do you top that?”
