Averno scripted history at NJPW X CMLL Fantasticmania on Thursday, February 26, as he ended Atlantis Jr.’s historic reign.

The 48-year-old defeated Atlantis Jr. by submission to become the new CMLL World Historic Light Heavyweight Champion. Atlantis Jr.’s reign lasted 1118 days, during which he notched up five successful defenses. He won the championship by defeating Stuka Jr. at CMLL Sabados De Coliseo in February 2023.

“Countering La Atlántida into a near fall, Averno stayed one step ahead. A Devil’s Wings followed for a close two-count. Atlantis Jr. answered with a powerslam, but a missed dive proved costly. Averno capitalized with two more Devil’s Wings and immediately transitioned into a submission, forcing the tapout to become the new champion,” New Japan Pro-Wrestling wrote while reviewing the match on their website.

This is Averno’s first reign as CMLL World Historic Light Heavyweight Champion. He previously reigned as CMLL World Light Heavyweight Champion for 490 days, from March 2024 to August 2025.
