Backstage Note on John Cena Appearing at WWE Backlash 2026

As noted previously, John Cena is set to be a part of WWE Backlash this Saturday. Earlier this week, Cena took to social media to announce that he has “history-making” news to share with fans at the premium live event.
This came as a surprise to fans as Cena had just hosted two nights of WrestleMania. Later, Dave Meltzer reported that Cena’s current contract with WWE mandates him to make a certain number of television appearances for the promotion. Cena signed up as WWE’s Ambassador ahead of his farewell bout against Gunther last December.
Hence, with Backlash 2026 taking place in Tampa, Florida, and John Cena also residing in the same area, it’s an easy appearance for him to make, per BodySlam+.
The report adds that both parties agreed to a deal a few weeks ago before Cena announced it on social media.
Meanwhile, WWE Backlash will be headlined by the World Heavyweight Title match between Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu. You can check out the full lineup for the PLE RIGHT HERE.
It’s official! I’m headed to #WWEBacklash! After months of planning and effort, I am SO excited to break some history-making news! I can’t promise it’ll be perfect but I can promise it will change the WWE experience for Superstars and fans!
C U Live Saturday in Tampa or at home…
