Update on WWE Plans for Liv Morgan & AJ Lee At WrestleMania

Despite Liv Morgan winning the 2026 WWE Royal Rumble, there has been uncertainty around WWE’s Women’s Championship direction heading into WrestleMania.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Morgan was the favorite to win the Rumble before the event. That outcome has positioned her as a logical challenger for Stephanie Vaquer, the reigning Women’s World Champion on RAW. Their confrontation in Philadelphia added context for a potential rivalry. Another possible option discussed backstage however has been WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill. In the men’s division, WWE wanted the top three stars in the WrestleMania main events and those top stars are clear, but for the women, it’s not quite as clear.
Dave Meltzer notes that Rhea Ripley, despite being the biggest star, remains featured in the tag team picture alongside IYO SKY, defending the Women’s Tag Team Championships. Becky Lynch is number 2 and continues her program centered on the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, with no reported changes to her opponent being AJ Lee. While Lee wasn’t at the Women’s Rumble, Meltzer noted that it would not have served any purpose for her to be in it.
Meltzer reported that the women’s tag division has become the point of emphasis in terms of booking for the women’s division. Teams like Bayley & Lyra Valkyria, Nia Jax & Lash Legend, and The Bella Twins have drawn consistent attention. Additional pairings, including returns involving Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss, have further shifted focus away from singles programs.
