As previously reported, the AEW contract of former TNT and World Tag Team Champion Jack Perry was due to expire soon. Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed the matter on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio.
According to Bryan Alvarez, he was informed that Perry’s current AEW contract is due to expire “at any moment.” Additionally, Alvarez reported that Perry hadn’t signed a new contract yet as of “yesterday” (likely June 14). Alvarez presumes that Perry will re-sign but said, “Anything is possible.”
Meltzer speculated that Perry would not do well in WWE, saying that it’s “probably not the best idea.” He added that his expectation of WWE not pushing Perry has “nothing to do with” Perry’s past issues with CM Punk. He explained, “I don’t think Punk would have the power to ruin him or anything like that, but he’s just not their style at all, the weight, and all the flying and the high spots and everything like that, they don’t — look at Johnny Gargano. Look at Nathan Frazer. These guys are great, great wrestlers.”
He continued, “They don’t even get a lot of shots to wrestle these days. Johnny Gargano’s been comatose for a while. Nathan Frazer, every now and then, shows up, has a great match. Axiom, who’s tremendous, sometimes he shows up, has a great match, but they don’t really do anything with those types of people.”
Fans will recall that CM Punk was fired by AEW following a backstage altercation with Jack Perry that took place at AEW All In London in August 2023.
