Callum Newman Says All His Achievements Have Been Off His Own Back, Not Will Ospreay’s

United Empire leader Callum Newman scripted history last week when he became the youngest-ever winner of the New Japan Cup. He has become the second United Empire member to capture the prestigious trophy, the first being Will Ospreay. However, Newman maintains that his accomplishments belong to him and not Ospreay.
He defeated Yuya Uemura in the finals and is now set to challenge Yota Tsuji for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Sakura Genesis.
Speaking at the press conference after his victory, Callum Newman acknowledged Will Ospreay’s role in bringing him to New Japan Pro-Wrestling but asserted that his accomplishments are his own and that the United Empire belongs to him.
“He got me an in, and then he left for another company, the rival company. All of my accomplishments have been off my own back, not his. Since he’s come back (at New Year Dash), there’s been more contact, and he’s more supportive because it’s my group now. Sorry, big bro, but the United Empire’s mine now,” he said.
There has been significant tension between Ospreay and Newman in recent months. At New Year’s Dash 2026, Newman considered hitting the AEW star with a steel chair despite the latter coming to his and the United Empire’s aid.
Notably, Ospreay congratulated Newman on his victory on social media.
One more piece to the puzzle.
Congratulations to Callum Newman.
