Darby Allin Says MJF Represents Everything That Scares Him in Wrestling

Darby Allin recently reflected on his opponent for tonight’s AEW Double or Nothing in MJF, and what he represents in AEW to Allin. Allin will defend the AEW World Championship against MJF at tonight’s PPV, with MJF’s hair on the line as well.
Allin spoke with The Sportster for a new interview ahead of the show. He was asked about MJF and shared what he thinks of the Salt of the Earth. You can see some highlights below:
On What MJF Represents In AEW:
“Well, I think he represents everything that scares me in wrestling. Growing up, all the wrestlers from the past, all you hear these stories — not all of them obviously, but you hear a lot of stories of everybody being so selfish and backstabbing and willing to do anything to get to the top. But what happens when the ride is all said and done? The 15-minute ride’s over and then you look at yourself in the mirror and you don’t know who you’re looking at because you spent your whole career just undermining and pissing everybody off to get to the top.
“I’m gonna tell you right now, the top isn’t everything is cracked up to be. It’s a very, empty hollow place. And he to me represents that attitude, you know? He’s very — just conceited, just ready, you know, just willing to do anything to anybody to get to the top. And I’m like, ‘Dude, if that’s what you’re doing this all for, you’re going to get chewed up and spit out by the machine one day. And life’s going to go on and you’re going to be stuck being like, ‘What the hell? Was that all worth it?'”
On If He’s Felt Lonely at the Top Or Where He Needs To Be:
“A little bit of both, you know? But I haven’t been able to really stop and smell the roses of winning the championship, because I’ve been defending it twice a week since I’ve won it. So in that sense it’s like, I really can’t, you know? There’s not much to fill except survival. But I love being in that position.”
