Demolition’s WWE Hall of Fame Speech Was Cut Short

After a long wait, Demolition was finally inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. Long-time fans of Ax & Smash were happy to see the championship-winning tag team finally get their rightful spot in the Hall.
Demolition talked about their trip to the WWE Hall of Fame on the most recent episode of DEMOPOD: The Demolition Podcast. While grateful for the honor, they did note that they didn’t get as long to make their speeches as they had hoped.
Bill “Ax” Eadie on the Production Crew & Their HOF Speech:
“I wanted to emphasize the activity of the current people in the business and the production because you know Barry and I talked about over the weekend (how) I would hate to be in that production crew because they take a lot of flack and don’t receive too much support. And those guys and girls in the business, they’re under a lot of pressure and I wanted to acknowledge them, but I also wanted to acknowledge the people that had given me guidance like Barry as well. So, it was a stressful time and I wish we could have gone longer. I understand we had a time frame, but I was happy with how it came out.”
Barry “Smash” Darsow on Their Speech Getting Cut Short:
“When they first were telling us to do all this, I had a speech that was going to be about a half hour long, and I was going to tell stories about Andre the Giant and different people and how I got in the business and all that. And then when they came to us and said, “You had six minutes.” And I asked “Six minutes between both of us?”, they said yes. And it was like, “Well, how am I going to take three minutes and Bill take three minutes?” So then all of a sudden, you have to cut this speech down. You know what your whole thought process was and mine ended up being probably four or five minutes and then Bill’s was four, five, six minutes maybe. So, we went over the time limit, but it’s almost, you know, you you’re getting inducted in the Hall of Fame. How can you just, you know, not really tell what you’re thinking, you know? And I noticed afterwards on the WWE site, they just have a couple words that I said and they have Bill’s whole speech, which is fine for me, but it’s because we went over the time limit. I’m sure.”
Hall of Fame induction speeches have been getting shorter over the years, with some exceptions. On the bright side, Barry Darsow will have some stories left over for when he makes his Hall of Fame induction speech for the Repo Man character. (I loved the Mr. Hole in One character too, not sure if that one makes the cut.)
