Earl Hebner Recalls a Scary Moment While Reffing Shawn Michaels vs. British Bulldog
– During a recent edition of Refin’ It Up, former WWE referee Earl Hebner recalled an incident where he got thrown through the ropes during a WWE Championship match between Shawn Michaels and The British Bulldog at WWF In Your House 8. At one point in the match, British Bulldog jumped into Michaels, hitting Hebner and sending Hebner flying through the second ring rope.
Hebner said on the incident (via WrestlingInc.com) that he “thought [he] was dead” after he got sent flying. He added, “I wasn’t prepared for that one because it was never said [beforehand] that he was going to do that.
Earl Hebner continued, “I was running toward him and he just kept me going and he grabbed me and just shot me through [the ropes].” The blue paint on the ropes actually scraped off onto his pants, and he had to throw them away as a result. Hebner went on, “They were blue at the time because there was so much sh** on them.”
