Issei Onitsuka Retires After GLEAT Determines He Violated Contract

Issei Onitsuka has chosen to retire from the ring after GLEAT determined that he violated his contract. As previously reported, the Japanese promotion suspended Onitsuka indefinitely last weekend after they began investigating whether he had violated his contract. The company announced on Wednesday that they had determined Onitsuka did indeed violate his contract.

GLEAT said that Onitsuka agreed to the punishment — fining him to cover company damages, stripping him of the G-INFINITY and G-RUSH titles, and dismissing him as chairman of the GLEAT fan club — but that he subsequently announced his retirement.

The full announcement reads:

[Regarding the punishment and retirement of player Issei Onizuka]
We would like to express our sincere gratitude for your continued support of GLEAT.

It has been determined that Onizuka Issei has violated his contract.

Therefore, from the perspective of maintaining order within the organization, we have decided to suspend Onizuka Issei from all competitive activities for one year within the scope of his contract, have him pay a fine to cover the damages caused to our company, strip him of his G-INFINITY and G-RUSH titles, and dismiss him from his position as chairman of GLEAT’s official fan club, Group G.

Although he agreed to the punishment, he subsequently announced his retirement from playing. Taking into consideration his wishes and his future plans, and respecting his wishes, we have decided to accept Onitsuka Issei’s departure from the team.

“With that in mind, I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that as of today I will be retiring from playing.

However, you will be required to pay the violation fee.”

We would like to announce the titles of G-INFINITY and G-RUSH and the future of the chairman of GLEAT’s official fan club, G-gumi, as soon as they have been decided.
