Jim Ross is believed to return to AEW commentary soon. The WWE Hall of Famer has missed several recent pay-per-view events and has been working limited schedules, calling only select matches during major shows, due to his fight against colon cancer. His last appearance was at All In 2025 in July 2025.

On a recent episode of Grilling JR, Ross provided further details about his recovery. He said he feels healthier than he has in years and is regaining his energy after long-term medical challenges, including ongoing cancer recovery. Ross also noted that he has signed a new one-year AEW contract focused on pay-per-view commentary and select main-event duties, adding that he plans to start calling matches again in the next few weeks.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter also noted that Ross is preparing for a comeback, though no specific date has been confirmed. Ross had been largely absent from public activity. He paused his podcast and did not appear at recent events. He also stayed quiet regarding comments made about him by D-Von Dudley earlier this year.

Meltzer believed that Ross could reappear in AEW at Worlds End on December 27. During his hiatus, Ross has moved back to Norman, Oklahoma, after selling his condo in Jacksonville. The 73-year-old explained that living closer to family has improved his daily routine and general well-being.
