John Cena Faces Sami Zayn In US Title Match On WWE Smackdown, Brock Lesnar Gets Involved

John Cena kicked off this week’s WWE Smackdown with a promo that led into a US Title match against Sami Zayn, which in turn was interrupted by Brock Lesnar. Friday’s show saw Cena make his last appearance on the brand as an active performer, coming out to the ring to start the show.

Following a “Thank You Cena” chant, Cena talked about how he was grateful to the fans and has given everything he had during his retirement tour. He thanked the fans that have been with him through it all and talked about making his debut in Chicago, facing Triple H, his match with CM Punk and more before saying that to him, the Chicago crowd is the greatest in WWE.

Zayn then came out as Cena started to head to the back. He said he wasn’t here to interrupt and is inspired by Cena’s final ride, noting that he had to come out and thank Cena on behalf of everyone in the back for what he’s done for Smackdown. More specifically, he said, he wanted to thank Cena for what Cena did for him and recalled debuting against Cena for the US Championship. Zayn asked Cena for the right to carry on John Cena’s US Title open challenge and Cena agreed before Zayn saying he would like to give Cena a shot at the title.

The match was a back and forth affair until both men were down and Lesnar came out to the ring. He hit Zayn with an F5 and then did the same to Cena before leaving.
