We start with a recap of last week’s main event where Judgment Day regained the Tag Team Titles.
Fittingly, Damian Priest and Finn Balor open the show. Finn welcomes everyone to the show and does the opening spiel but is quickly cut off by Cody Rhodes. He disses them and says Rhea might not be the “leader” but she’s clearly pulling the strings and is their Mami too. Cody mentions their deal with the Bloodline and then addresses Damian individually. He brings up how their fight isn’t over and Damian responds by saying that Cody’s story is clearly one of him failing at every turn. Cody wants a fight but Priest says he has a match with Jey Uso tonight so he won’t do it. However, he challenges him for Crown Jewel and Cody accepts. However, he still wants to people a preview tonight and Priest likes the idea as the ring gets surrounded by Rhea and Dom showing up. Jey runs out and lays out Dom as Cody fights inside. He battles Priest as Jey fights Finn. Cody takes a chop block as JD McDonagh joins the fray and they smash Cody’s ankle between a pair of steel chairs and the steel steps.
Backstage, Jey and Adam Pearce want Cody to go to the trainer as he can barely walk. Ever the tough guy, Cody tries to go against them but Jey helps him get around.
American Alpha vs. The New Day
American Alpha is with their new recruit Akira Tozawa and Maxxine Dupri. Gable starts with Woods for some mat wrestling. Tag to Kofi for tandem offense that includes a sliding clothesline and a bunch of splashes. Gable and Kofi fall outside where Gable lands on his feet and then Woods gets run over by Otis. Otis then backdrops Kofi as we head to commercial break. Returning, Kofi avoids a splash from Otis and makes the hot tag to Woods just as Gable comes in. Gable and Woods go at it with Woods eluding him only to nearly jump into a German suplex. Gable gets countered into a Russian leg sweep and Woods a senton. Woods picks up a near fall on a spinning slam. He misses the Honor Roll and eats a trio of German suplexes for two. A Doomsday combo on Woods sees the pin broken up and Otis removes the shirt as it’s time for the CATERPILLAR. It opens the door for Woods to superkick him but Otis responds with a headbutt. He hits the corner on a shoulder block and Gable tags in without Woods knowing. Woods does a reverse Caterpillar but Gable catches him with the Ankle Lock Woods counters into a rollup for two. Otis tags as Gable is sent outside. Woods avoids a slam and kicks Otis a few times before Kofi comes in with an axe handle smash. Trouble in Paradise connects and KOfi takes out Gable with a somersault plancha. Woods then beats Otis with an elbow off the top.
Winners: The New Day in 10:17
Backstage, Jackie Redmond interviews Becky Lynch. She talks about being a fighting champion as Indi Hartwell seems to be watching from the back. It’s hard to see given the lighting. Becky won’t look past her even if Lyra Valkyria is in attendance tonight.
A vignette airs to hype Ivar as he’s the “one true warrior,” with Valhalla handling voiceover work.
A recap airs of the Drew McIntyre/Seth Rollins interaction from last week. Backstage, Seth bumps into Rhea Ripley. She says that Judgment Day respects him because they did everything they could to take him out but he’s still champion. They’re concerned about his schedule and think he could use an insurance policy against Drew. Seth realizes this, the talk with Drew, and the deal with the Bloodline is all because Rhea doesn’t have faith in Damian beating him. Rhea says Seth needs him because now he’s just “a” World Champion but he can be “The” World Champion with her. Joining Judgment Day means Damian could cash in on Roman and they all hold gold. People will acknowledge Seth. Seth wants to be nothing like Roman but Rhea says that wasn’t a “no.”
Elsewhere, Candice helps Indi prepare for the match and Natalya wishes her luck. They check in on Tegan who got hurt on NXT and Nattie wishes Indi luck.
NXT Women’s Championship: Becky Lynch [c] vs. Indi Hartwell
Indi sends Becky packing at the bell so the champ takes a moment to regroup. Candice watches on a monitor backtage as Becky tries for the Dis-Arm-Her but Indi blocks it and gives her a classic hot shot followed by a sidewalk slam. Diesel offense. Becky turns the tide and sends her outside, following with a baseball slide. Indi avoids it and launches her into the barricade going into commercial break. Returning, Indi remains in control and hits an elbow off the top to the back for two. Lyra Valkryia is shown watching from the front row. Becky comes back with a reverse DDT for two. They counter each other a bit until Indi gets two on a big boot. The fight moves up top for a Bret’s Rope superplex. Becky immediately pops up and goes into an armbar attempt but Indi blocks. She powers up and powerbombs Becky for two. Indi keeps up with the power-based offense getting a near fall on a spinebuster. A few flash pin attempts leads to the Dis-Arm-Her, which Becky wins with.
Winner: Becky Lynch in 9:16
Becky and Indi shake hands after the bell and then Becky goes to have a face to face with Lyra. Backstage, Xia Li attacks Candice LeRae.
Elsewhere, Nick Aldis comes up to Adam Pearce for a word. He says he’s just here for healthy competition. Pearce invites him to stay and see how the A Show works but he doubles security.
It’s time for the Women’s World Title match contract signing. They all sign as the next competitor arrives, doing this in quick succession. I like that idea as it sells how Pearce really wants this to go off without a hitch given how chaotic things have been. Nia refuses to sign because Rhea hasn’t. Pearce says Rhea has been the source of the chaos so he’ll get her signature later. Nia agrees to sign so she can get Rhea at the PPV. Of course, Rhea interrupts to a huge pop. As the fans chant “Mami,” Rhea says this is a conspiracy because she can beat each woman individually but this is a setup by Pearce to punish her. It doesn’t matter because she plans on retaining either way. Nia speaks as the crowd boos her, saying Rhea’s plan is to get Nia to squash them all for her. Somehow that’s her conclusion. Nia disses Texas and Raquel, sparking a brawl as Rhea watches it all unravel. Nia ultimately stands tall as Rhea laughs from the aisle.
Ludwig Kaiser tells Giovani Vinci to beat Johnny Gargano so they don’t look bad for Gunther. Bronson Reed interrupts to say he’d love a rematch with Gunther and Ludwig tells him to talk to Gunther himself. Akira Tozawa shows up as Imperium leaves. He wants a match with Reed, who politely declines. Akira chops him and Reed accepts. Maxxine Dupri says that wasn’t the kind of guy he was supposed to try and fight.
Giovanni Vinci vs. Johnny Gargano
Almost as soon as this starts, we go to a small PIP so we can see a trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s. Vinci delivers a backbreaker and fallaway slam. He remains in control until Kaiser gets involved. Tommaso Ciampa shows up and takes out Kaiser, allowing Gargano to hit One Final Beat and secure the quick win.
Winner: Johnny Gargano in 2:42
Backstage, Shinsuke Nakamura cuts a promo in Japanese about the damage he’s done lately and wondering if anyone is worthy enough to set him free.
Logan Paul comes out for some promo time ahead of his upcoming match with Rey Mysterio. He says the guy he beat in boxing the other night got so embarrassed that his team dropped him and he’s not unemployed. Logan says he’s also a free agent now because he can sign with Raw or Smackdown after winning the US Title. Here’s Dominik Mysterio to interrupt him, though Logan tells the crowd to stop booing and show Dirty Dom respect. Logan says Dom grew up with a deadbeat dad and still became the champion of a continent while he’s just a kid from Ohio who became a star too. The only person who needs to be humbled is Rey. They talk about that for a bit before Logan says he can’t wait to be announced as champion, so he brings in his favorite ring announcer, Samantha Irvin. He wants her to announce him as new US Champion but Ricochet arrives and takes him out. Dom attacks but eats a pump knee. Logan saves Dom from a Shooting Star Press and the two loudmouths head to the back.
Chelsea Green and Piper Niven vs. Natalya and ???
Due to Tegan Nox’s injury, Natalya needs a new partner and brings out Nikki Cross. It didn’t get much of a reaction. Nikki is more subdued than usual, standing on the apron looking straight up without watching the match at all. Chelsea and Nattie go at it until a tag comes to Piper who squashes Nattie in the corner and then works a modified Cobra Clutch. As Chelsea comes back in, Nikki gets off the apron and stares up as she walks to the back. Nattie hits a release German suplex and gets going. However, she misses a tag and Chelsea cuts off the Sharpshooter on Piper. She hits the Unprettier and Piper adds a cross body to win.
Winners: Chelsea Green and Piper Niven in 3:09
Backstage, Drew McIntyre apologizes to Jey for last week with false sincerity because he knows all too well what it’s like to have the Bloodline cost you a title. Drew then says that whatever he does to Sami now is on Jey because it’s all happening since he’s on Raw.
Backstage, The Miz complains to Adam Pearce that he doesn’t get anything to do on Raw despite his star status and accolades. However, he believes Nick Aldis knows that to be true. Rhea Ripley walks over with her signed contract and the camera leaves with her instead of focusing on The Miz. Rhea finds Dom and checks on him after what happened with Ricochet.
Drew McIntyre vs. Sami Zayn
The early stages here see Drew overpower Sami at every turn. So Sami hits a chop but then gets run over for his troubles. Sami turns the tide outside with his quickness and a moonsault. However, Drew catches him inside with a ridiculous suplex spot. Sami tries to trade blows with him but clearly goes down. Sami manages to take him down with a big clothesline though and then wails on Drew with forearms. Before a commercial, Drew launches Sami onto the announce table to take control again. Returning, Sami eludes Drew who runs shoulder first into the post. Sami capitalizes with a suplex and starts to get hyped up. He sends Drew outside and follows with a tope con hilo. Back inside, Drew wants to hit White Noise off the top but Sami counters into a sunset flip bomb for two. Drew stops his momentum with the Glasgow Kiss but Sami avoids the Claymore by hitting the Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall. Drew hits a pair of belly to belly suplexes and a neckbreaker but both men are down afterward. This brings out Rhea Ripley for a closer look and Sami hits an Exploder into the corner. Rhea hops on the apron for a distraction. Drew takes advantage with the Claymore and its over.
Winner: Drew McIntyre in 14:55
Backstage, Nick Aldis talks to Kayden Carter and Kacy Catanzaro until Adam Pearce interrupts. He doesn’t like what Nick did but Nick shrugs it off and chooses to leave. Nikki Cross walks back, still in her state from earlier and Pearce says he needs a drink.
Akira Tozawa vs. Bronson Reed
Akira uses quick strikes and chops but then eats a body avalanche and is in trouble. Reed adds a chop and belly to belly suplex. Then he hits a press slam but misses the senton and Akira fires off more chops and kicks. He gets caught diving at Reed and takes a DVD followed by the senton. Reed ends it with the Tsunami.
Winner: Bronson Reed in 2:29
Backstage, New Day and American Alpha are talking over one of those Dallas Cowboys titles. Akira Tozawa shows up and is hurt. DIY enter to talk about the tag division and how they’re back. THey give Tozawa that title so he can do his little workout with it.
Seth congratulates Drew in the back on his first win as a member of Judgment Day. Drew says it looks more like he’s down with Rhea given their talk earlier and they say the best man will win at the PPV.
NEXT WEEK ~ Seth Rollins vs. JD McDonagh; Xia Lie vs. Candice LeRae; DIY vs. Imperium; Dominik Mysterio vs. Ricochet
Damian Priest vs. Jey Uso
They trade shots to start with Priest getting the first notable upper hand until he misses a corner splash and hits the post. Jey hits a dropkick and tope suicida heading into the commercial break. Returning, Priest is wearing down Jey with a chinlock. He gets two after hitting Broken Arrow and Jey tries fighting back but he’s getting overwhelmed in a strike exchange. Jey rallies and wins out, avoids a boot and hits an enziguri. Jey goes up and nails a diving cross body for two. Priest comes back with a combo that includes a spinning punch and big lariat for two. Jey blocks a chokeslam, removes his shirt, and hits an uppercut and Samoan Drop. Outside, Jey has a tope suicida caught and Priest slams him with a Flatliner on the announce table. My feed cuts out for a short while and when it comes back, Jey hits the big splash inside. Before he can cover, Finn Balor runs out and Jey takes him out. That gives Priest the time to recover and strike as Finn pulls Jey’s leg and crotches him on the middle rope. South of Heaven connects and it’s over.
Winner: Damian Priest in 12:19
Post-match, Finn adds the Coup de Grace and they look to use a chair to repeat what happened to Cody Rhodes earlier. Cody Rhodes’ music hits as he limps out to make the save. He levels Finn, avoids a chair shot from Damian and takes him out with a chair. He wants to smash Priest’s leg in a chair but Finn saves his partner.
