Linda McMahon’s confirmation hearing for the role of Education Secretary saw the ring boys lawsuit against WWE brought up. The Senate confirmation hearing for McMahon was held today in Washington, DC and during the hearing, Senator Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsiin mentioned the lawsuit, which was filed against TKO and both Linda and Vince McMahon in October.

The lawsuit filed on behalf of five former ring boys alleges that Mel Phillips and Terry Garvin sexually abused them during their time working for the company in the the 1980s and 1990s, and that Vince and Linda McMahon were aware of the abuse but did nothing to stop it. Baldwin told McMahon that she was concerned, given the lawsuit, if sexual assault survivors on campus can trust her to support them.

“They certainly can trust me to support them,” McMahon said (per Wrestling Inc). “I have a granddaughter that is now in college, i have two grandsons who are in college. I have a deep commitment of understanding how I would feel if any of them were involved in sexual harassment or were accused of sexual harassment. You have my absolute commitment that I will uphold and protect those investigations to make sure that those students are treated fairly on both sides.”

McMahon did not mention her being a defendant in the lawsuit and there was no follow-up question.

A stay in the lawsuit was ordered in December pending a a decision on the constitutionality of the Child Victims Act of 2023 in Maryland. The state’s Supreme Court ruled earlier this month that the CVA is constitutional and the lawsuit is expected to continue. PWInsider reports that there has been no movement since the Maryland Supreme Court’s decision yet.
