The famed Madison Square Garden will stay where it is as New York prepares to renovate Penn Station underneath it. As has been reported, there had been pitches for the iconic venue to be razed and relocated amid plans to renovate the Penn Station hub, which would have allowed the station to expand.
That is not going to happen, as Gothamist reports that a plan was approved in which Penn Station will be rebuilt into a train hall without requiring MSG to relocate.
The potential plan to relocate Madison Square Garden had been under consideration since 2013, when New York City renewed the venue’s permit to exist above Penn Station through 2028. At the time, there was a push to relocate the arena from its current location, which is actually the third location that has housed the Garden.
The Penn Station renovations will be overseen by a group called Penn Transformation Partners, as announced by Amtrak. President Trump has ordered that construction break ground before the end of 2027.
WWE’s next show in Madison Square Garden will be Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 18th.
