Mick Foley Plans To Talk With Darby Allin About High Risk Style

Mick Foley says that he doesn’t know if it will achieve anything, but he plans to talk to Darby Allin about his high-risk in-ring style. The Hardcore Legend has been cited by Allin as an inspiration to him growing up, something you can see in Allin’s willingness to put his body on the line. That style led Allin to the AEW World Title this year, but has also resulted in some scary moments.

Foley is now in AEW, and he was asked during an interview with Ariel Helwani if he plans to talk to Allin about the matter. Foley has been open about the health issues he’s had as a result of his self-sacrificing style during his career, and he said that he will have that talk with Allin — though he noted many others have “tried and failed.” You can see highlights below:

On If He Wants To Talk to Allin About His High-Risk Style:

“Yes, I will have that conversation. I didn’t think the time to have the conversation was hours before his biggest match. I’ve been told that people have had that conversation with him, and he says, ‘Everybody does their best stuff in the PPVs, I owe it to my fans to do it on every televised event.’ So I’ll try to talk with Darby.”

On Allin Considering Him an Inspiration:

“I didn’t know until about six weeks ago that I was an inspiration in his career. Because I’d known him since he was probably 17 years old, going back — 10 years, I don’t know the exact timeline. I don’t know exactly how old Darby is. But he really was the quiet kid who looked like he didn’t quite fit in. So the promo I gave that genuinely seemed to fire him up was all from the heart, and they were all factual. They were all the statements based in fact.

“But I will have that talk with him, and try to find out like — it’s got to be another gear where he can allude to the things, give people 80% of what you usually do. Knowing that the vast majority of his fans will be thankful for what he gives them, and they will understand that they might have to wait until a special event to get the 100% Darby. I understand many a man has tried and failed but I’ll give him the best advice I possibly can.”
